Lectio divina in its classic medieval, monastic form consisted of reading, meditation, prayer, and contemplation of the Scriptures. This classic approach, with the additional elements of journal keeping, the use of the Jesus Prayer, and the Jungian concept of 'active imagination' was taught to a group of six lay Episcopalians over a six-week period. The problem is approached in a practicum, in which a group of fifteen students at Oklahoma City University study worship and liturgy while planning for nine university worship events.  The project includes a theology, an educational approach, a narrative of the practicum, and a model for local church use. The goal of the practicum was to develop a plan for recruiting and training lay leaders in the local church that could help solve the problem by providing a reservoir of trained and willing persons adequate to meet the needs of that church. The author worked with a local church in developing and using a leadership plan that was repeated for four years. Evaluations and observations indicated that the plan did make a significant difference in the availability of lay leadership. The author conducted training sessions which involved lay members of the congregation.  They in turn led meetings in private homes to ascertain what needs people thought the church could help fill. Oglesby underscores the importance of using the biblical story to intersect life themes. This project addressed this issue by building on a strong family structure and providing the resources of the Christian faith so that communication was enhanced between parents and children.  Parents and children thought family communication was facilitated when a shared praxis model was used. The conclusions are: 1) prophetic announcements of the New Age must spring fresh from the 'Word'; 2) using journalism as the means of transforming consciousness is breaking new ground for evangelism; 3) a group is necessary for developing the prophetic model; and 4) the prophetic model forms a matrix for new, even startling, understandings of God's reign and motivates individuals through word-act lived out in the community called
