Eight weekly sessions were conducted involving twelve recent candidates for membership. Individual pre-training and post-training interviews with questionnaires were conducted to provide information as to any changes in interest, attitude and/or understanding of the meaning of church membership. Training sessions included a grounding in the six major dimensions of the Christian faith and the meaning of living the gospel. Through this project it was not possible to determine whether the training process would or would not prevent these new members from becoming inactive. The new members definitely increased their understanding of the faith. Interest and enthusiasm was engendered for more study of scripture and the mission of the church. The project also pointed up new directions for our ministry, i.e., the need for a well-planned, total faith-sharing program complete with training workshops, faith-sharing Sundays, and followup."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Perkins School of Theology"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["9d359def-dc0f-4ac7-a978-8df771bc0984"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791127266851291136,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T06:41:11.811Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T03:36:57Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T06:37:19Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"8e8e2a8c-6728-4427-98b4-69658891a6c7","accessControl_ssim":["77db0363-5c85-4033-976f-3d741261b243"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Kavanaugh 2000: developing long-range congregational goals and assessing pastoral leadership skills in response to a...changing community"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T03:36:56Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T02:18:26Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["652f9e4b-f0c9-425c-a025-9a298881720c"],"hasLease_ssim":["a74ffd80-ac86-4bdf-a383-b25e7dd40c8b"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Perkins School of Theology"],"advisor_tesim":["Stanley J Menking"],"year_tesim":["1994"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Larry W George"],"publisher_tesim":["Perkins School of Theology Southern Methodist University"],"subject_tesim":["Mission of the church","Planning"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The project was developed to address the need of Kavanaugh United Methodist Church (Greenville, Texas) to establish long-range goals and assess pastoral leadership skills for mission and ministry. Using the structure as mandated by the Discipline of the United Methodist Church, a task force was formed and charged with creating the design and its implementation. The practicum was conducted over a six-month period with the task force meeting with the pastor for an extensive period of six weeks. The task force, using a shared praxis approach, dealt with issues related to faith development for both preschool children and adults. The practicum was conducted over a five-month period, being focused in the work of a ten-member task force. After an initial phase of spiritual preparation, task force members were encouraged to define the congregation's 'ideal' mission through a modification of Richard Broholm's 'envisioning process.' Congregational convocations helped the group refine its work for final presentation to the official church council. Research hints at the value of a mission statement, management by objective, and the envisioning process in church administration. More clearly demonstrated, though, were: the importance of spiritual devotion in administration; and, the dialectical nature of practical theology."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Perkins School of Theology"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["9d359def-dc0f-4ac7-a978-8df771bc0984"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791127344861151232,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T06:42:26.207Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T02:48:32Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T03:06:22Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"06a17317-b12f-4b62-a3e7-24eb69c09ece","accessControl_ssim":["6d639a56-288f-4720-8764-7a8be22aaa0b"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Circles of intercession: teaching intercessory prayer"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T02:48:31Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T22:18:40Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["49ab72a2-f993-44ef-ba27-6be9baf98d56"],"hasLease_ssim":["4cd83966-bcee-4c20-b687-a32cdb956c47"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Perkins School of Theology"],"advisor_tesim":["Marjorie Procter-Smith"],"year_tesim":["1992"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["John F Clifford"],"publisher_tesim":["Perkins School of Theology Southern Methodist University"],"subject_tesim":["Prayer","Interpersonal relations"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This project/practicum rests on a conviction that intercessory prayer deals with relationships and can become a vehicle for growing more involved in a wide range of caring expressions. They have also proved useful for describing other caring relationships."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Perkins School of Theology"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["9d359def-dc0f-4ac7-a978-8df771bc0984"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799720463473049600,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T03:06:22.725Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T02:48:31Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T06:39:51Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"be9d7f56-db01-4cd0-bef1-f3ed93d28448","accessControl_ssim":["6ea201d0-37e5-4d92-bdcb-96303e480e71"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Learning to utilize Aaron Beck's cognitive therapy model in ministry to married persons through a seminar enhancing marital communication"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T02:48:30Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T03:37:17Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["dfa34dd1-8302-4be0-84f8-263e903601c9"],"hasLease_ssim":["cf7fe78b-3074-4a97-a5cc-c60006bb694d"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Perkins School of Theology"],"advisor_tesim":["Leroy T Howe"],"year_tesim":["1993"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Steven R Bailey"],"publisher_tesim":["Perkins School of Theology Southern Methodist University"],"subject_tesim":["Church work with families","Families--Religious life","Cognition","Beck, Aaron T","Education"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The purpose of this practicum is to develop the skills, knowledge, and experience necessary for the author to utilize Aaron Beck's Cognitive Therapy model in ministry to married persons, and to draw upon this model as the basis for two weekend seminars with couples seeking to enhance their marital communication. This project tests the premise that an exploration of this tradition will enable laity to witness to their faith. A small study group of African-American Christians followed a curriculum based on Thomas R Groome's shared praxis model of Christian education, involving interaction with and response to Christian witness. The study allowed participants to: examine the content of the church's evangelistic witness; explore the experiences of slavery and freedom which have shaped the way African Americans relate the Christian story; and identify prospective means of evangelism in which laity could become active. At the conclusion of the study, participants expressed an understanding of the essential meaning of the gospel, increased understanding of the way African Americans have appropriated the Christian story, and renewed intent to serve as Christian witnesses."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Perkins School of Theology"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["9d359def-dc0f-4ac7-a978-8df771bc0984"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791127366085378048,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T06:42:46.448Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T02:37:09Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T06:33:27Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"3fbbc3de-7214-4f09-a615-8c910adf2a64","accessControl_ssim":["fc6512a3-3234-4caa-be64-24a3d8c8fe0e"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Utilizing small groups in the analysis of dreams as a revelatory event"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T02:37:08Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T23:58:47Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["8c0d964e-2de3-41d1-8902-cde344d81d69"],"hasLease_ssim":["61aec5a4-7206-41ba-b706-8b642dcd8450"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Perkins School of Theology"],"advisor_tesim":["Leroy T Howe"],"year_tesim":["1993"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["William K Boggan"],"publisher_tesim":["Perkins School of Theology Southern Methodist University"],"subject_tesim":["Dream interpretation","Revelation"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The purpose of this practicum/project was to develop a small group dream analysis process by which the participant can examine the dream as a revelatory event. The practicum/project takes seriously the historical documentation of the relevance of dreams. The method of Jungian dream analysis was used with the small groups. This method of analysis allowed the participants to develop a process to understand their dreams and to relate the dream to their spirituality. The practicum was conducted over a six-week period of time. Forty-one participants were enrolled in three dream analysis classes. The participants were from a United Methodist Church and a retirement center in Little Rock, Arkansas. Each group met with the pastor weekly for a 1-hour dream analysis session. These 3 groups were separated into distinct age-groups: ages 20-45, 46-69, 70-90. A dream notebook was kept by each participant. This practicum/project has established the importance of understanding dreams as a revelatory event. Without exception every member of the small groups had an increase in the appreciation for their dreams and its importance as a method of revelation."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Perkins
