Electronic media create a fundamental shift from a 'propositional' to a 'narrative' paradigm.  Worldviews fostered by the emerging electronic paradigm have much in common with the oral and manuscript cultures in which Scripture texts originated. The nature, foundations, and consequences of this shift are documented in detail, to support the thesis that participatory performance of Scripture is a powerfully effective mode of establishing and maintaining Christian community. The hypothesis was that by attention to intimacy, leadership, and mission a strategy for the establishment of community could be developed so as to positively effect church renewal.  The research method was integrative-wholistic using an action-research model.  The hypothesis was proven correct. Based on the concepts that ministry is for reconciliation, and listening is a vital ministry, the project sought to train lay church members in the art of creative listening.  These trained listeners then called on other church members--especially the disaffected--in an attempt to achieve reconciliation.
