It explores contemporary Christian scholarship regarding the Bible and women, children, and those living with physical or emotional disabilities and argues that patriarchy and ableism—in scripture and tradition—have long silenced marginal voices. Using examples from her own creative work, the author maintains that literary fiction can be a powerful tool to give voice to—and inspire—those who have historically been marginalized and ignored. The theological essay is followed by an original work of literary fiction, The Third Testament, a collection of biblical short stories, sonnets, and a novella which brings to life the hidden voices of scripture."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["admin_set/default-default-approving","admin_set/default-default-depositing","admin_set/default-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Default Admin Set"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["whitejoann@hotmail.com"],"_version_":1831108871218790400,"timestamp":"2025-05-03T14:11:41.025Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T20:14:28Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T06:45:37Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"cad92f03-f846-4bc5-8901-e0ac38c9b8d7","accessControl_ssim":["dfd4350a-2033-4017-9393-288186122d74"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Faith Based Community Engagement"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T20:14:27Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T03:57:49Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["fc4cd21e-6db1-4d18-9eca-a7ee75a06c3f"],"hasLease_ssim":["7afba4f1-9a7a-4a59-a1c5-68d35ca2b958"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Divinity"],"discipline_tesim":["Missional Leadership"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Pittsburgh Theological Seminary"],"year_tesim":["2023"],"resource_type_tesim":["Dissertation"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Jones, Richard"],"keyword_tesim":["Church and community"],"subject_tesim":["Church renewal","Christology","Church growth","Church development, New"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Engaging the community faithfully gives a new social imaginary of mutual conversion and genuine friendship in the church as well as with those in the community. This engagement can bring genuine transformation to the church and the community. Faithful community engagement requires the theological framework of a transformational imagination, rather than a transactional imagination, and a practice that will move a church toward being truly community engaged. Transformational imagination is when people come to a place of being able to think and see their world and the world around them in new ways that leads to long term change and growth, both personally and collectively."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Pittsburgh Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31bd5819-b5a3-4928-96d5-b581f38b637b"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791127550173380608,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T06:45:42.008Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T04:22:50Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T06:39:04Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"8133ed88-cbf5-4e2a-a5f3-d45ae3b51135","accessControl_ssim":["f86155cc-179a-4b64-9ea8-57496a2796b8"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Pilgrimage into promise: Calvin's benefits of knowing Christ in a pan-atheistic age"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T04:22:49Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T01:56:36Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["eb9b1357-c0e7-471a-96c4-b29fcf568a1d"],"hasLease_ssim":["b25712a3-7143-4144-8242-6eedfd215f20"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Pittsburgh Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Stephen D Crocco"],"year_tesim":["1995"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Thomas P Harp"],"publisher_tesim":["Pittsburgh Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Spiritual life--Christianity","Christology","Theology","Calvin, Jean, 1509-1564"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["In The Institutes, Book 3, John Calvin identified the following benefits of knowing Christ: faith, regeneration, the Christian life, justification by faith, Christian freedom, prayer, election, and resurrection. Class sessions primarily involved lecture and discussion. The course also included daily scriptural readings and reflections on the gospel of Mark.
