It explores contemporary Christian scholarship regarding the Bible and women, children, and those living with physical or emotional disabilities and argues that patriarchy and ableism—in scripture and tradition—have long silenced marginal voices. Using examples from her own creative work, the author maintains that literary fiction can be a powerful tool to give voice to—and inspire—those who have historically been marginalized and ignored. The theological essay is followed by an original work of literary fiction, The Third Testament, a collection of biblical short stories, sonnets, and a novella which brings to life the hidden voices of scripture."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["admin_set/default-default-approving","admin_set/default-default-depositing","admin_set/default-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Default Admin Set"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["whitejoann@hotmail.com"],"_version_":1831108871218790400,"timestamp":"2025-05-03T14:11:41.025Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2024-05-03T14:47:26Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-03T14:47:50Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"c64dff4e-e889-4960-875d-ea473870daa8","accessControl_ssim":["99ba364d-98a9-4910-9b0c-e926beb20cd1"],"depositor_ssim":["jmauch@pts.edu"],"depositor_tesim":["jmauch@pts.edu"],"title_tesim":["The Habits of Moths"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2024-05-03T14:47:25Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-03T14:47:49Z","isPartOf_ssim":["admin_set/default"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["00ffec65-0074-48ea-91a1-35f09211f139"],"hasLease_ssim":["06cc811e-ac18-4ac6-ad09-a66118daecf5"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Pittsburgh Theological Seminary"],"year_tesim":["2024"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. Through the centuries, however, the legend has been altered and reworked, often to suit the needs of those in power. The result is that women, once the heroes of the legend, have been reduced to negative roles and characterization inconsistent with earliest examples of the myth. This work seeks to reimagine the tale, and particularly the role of women within it, order to return to earlier Celtic versions and restore the agency, power, and importance of the women in the legend of King Arthur.
