A viable alternative is Seamless Pastoral Transition, an option that is becoming more and more common across traditions. With the goal of preserving congregational continuity and momentum, Seamless Pastoral Transition eliminates the gap in time between the service of the Outgoing Pastor and Incoming Pastor. The congregation has a history and character that must be appreciated if the new minister is to be integrated fully into its life. The topics included (a) the cultural context of the 21st century church and the adaptive challenge, (b) creating and promoting vision for the church, (c) managing change and conflict, (d) leadership and spiritual formation for the church, (e) creating structures in implementing vision, and (f) creating community and fellowship.
