The combined implications become the ingredients of the program. The resulting five-year design was evaluated by fifty-eight chaplains. Selected persons will attend a 90-minute session each week for ten weeks in which they will receive information on world hunger, education on the use of dietary exchange lists for diet control, and group support for personal needs and concerns. They will be tested before and after the project for evidence of learning. They will submit weekly progress reports on diet control. They will experience a 24-hour fast. They will be given recipes and other information to facilitate low-calorie, vegetarian and other diet programs. Twelve persons participated in this project. Generally, all persons lost weight or achieved their dietary goals. Most gained valuable insight into world hunger issues. All persons received excellent group support. This project shows that people can become involved in world hunger issues and learn skills of diet management in a non-threatening, supportive atmosphere."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Pittsburgh Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31bd5819-b5a3-4928-96d5-b581f38b637b"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799720734564548608,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T03:10:41.258Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T22:07:42Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T06:41:32Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"9ebae732-a553-4a3a-b240-7515c01b6913","accessControl_ssim":["f7322926-eb52-4c48-8b0f-4dce0fa095c2"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Unity in diversity"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T22:07:42Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T02:46:23Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["4bd47431-9e93-4357-a229-f388cec7ac53"],"hasLease_ssim":["9c287d7b-4ad9-418d-b685-84d8288bbdce"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Pittsburgh Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["James Arthur Walther"],"year_tesim":["1984"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Frank E McGahey"],"keyword_tesim":["Congregations--Internal conflict","Religious surveys"],"publisher_tesim":["Pittsburgh Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Congregations","Anniversaries","Church renewal","Church--Unity"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The church was established by our lord, Jesus Christ, to carry out his ministry in this world. From the earliest times, the church has struggled with its unity as a 'body'. The twentieth century church is rocked by the growing number of schisms in many congregations. Dr. mcGahey has served one such congregation trying to pick up the pieces of a major division. Through the use of personal interviews and questionnaires, mcGahey has tried to evaluate the situation of his congregation. He has tried to build a sense of unity through a 150th anniversary celebration, to affirm the ministry of his people. The result is a reawareness of our own need to see ourselves as God's people, not our own. The number and rate of resignations and a review of the literature provide context. Analysis of the interview data reveals consensus regarding the seminary's failure to encourage personal maturity, an overall positive experience of priesthood and problems with the institutional church in areas of authority and celibacy. The researcher speculates that the conflict between the respondents' idealized image of church and their lived experience weakened their commitment to a celibate priesthood.
