The project surveyed congregants' attitudes and experiences of priesthood. Responses were compared with 'official' church teaching in the context of a parish-wide conversation. Parishioners identified both tensions and possibilities for exploring lay and ordained ministries. The project illustrates how a stage 5 modal level of aspiration among church leaders can encourage a church to serve the needs of people as different developmental stages simultaneously.  Church leaders who can reliably identify an individual's stage of faith, and who speak multiple 'languages of faith,' can adapt their ministries of discipleship, evangelism and pastoral care to effectively meet each individual's needs.
