The Word of the holy God is preached and received to make a holy people. This is a clear Biblical expectation. Four passages serve to illustrate the consistent focus of scripture on the sanctification of God’s covenant people: Deut. 6, Matt. 5, Eph. 4, and 2 Pet. 1. The impact of the preaching of John Calvin in Geneva is explored to gauge its impact on the sanctification of the people sitting under the Word. The influence of the Consistory of Geneva is also examined to determine how they created an expectation of sanctification in that Reformed city.Themes in Walter Marshall’s work, The Gospel Mystery of Sanctification, are summarized to enumerate the various theological strands which are woven together with our sanctification. Those themes are then used to also discover the degree to which more contemporary sources support a Biblical understanding of the place of sanctification in the Christian life. Lastly such themes are employed to provide a framework in which local churches can increase their emphasis on continual growth in holiness for all of the members of the church. Ideas for equipping the elders of the church to support this emphasis are detailed. The focus turns to discipling the members to see the importance of growing in holiness in a consistent way as they sit under the preached Word."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Miscellaneous"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791127373915095040,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T06:42:53.915Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T20:12:26Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:06:38Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"b3400205-f515-425b-ac43-0373f7504659","accessControl_ssim":["fcca813d-6997-49bb-a13a-677c461efa7a"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Presbyterian Polity In Practice: A Commentary On The Book Of Church Orderof The Presbyterian Church In America"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T20:12:26Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T03:18:45Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["43542de6-b896-4a0d-bedc-c05c7fcef267"],"hasLease_ssim":["4ca61c99-347c-46af-8346-fc3306785bfc"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Reformed Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Guy Waters Ph.D."],"year_tesim":["2023"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. The study begins by demonstrating the debate over the use and interpretation of the BCO within the PCA. It introduces the debate by putting the BCO into the context of the Constitution of the PCA, examining its relation to the Westminster Standards, and how subscription to the Standards affects operating under the BCO. Having put the BCO into the larger context of the Constitution of the PCA, it explores the current debate over polity before examining the resources available to illuminate the BCO. The study moves then to the basic biblical principles of Presbyterian church government. It investigates the headship of Christ as the foundational principle of Church government before working out the implications of his headship in jure divino government and the regulative principle. An examination of Acts 15 shows Christ’s headship in action in the life of the Church, leading to an exploration of the fundamental Scriptural principles that underlie and shape Presbyterian polity. The study then surveys the historical development of the BCO from its beginnings in the Colonial era to the current time to see the significant influences that shaped it. This historical context gives the framework to understand both the larger shape of the Church laid out by the BCO and some of the individual provisions. The study culminates in a chapter-by-chapter commentary on the BCO that marries the broad context identified in the rest of the study to the narrow context of the history and basis of each specific provision to provide an easy-to-use reference for the elders of the Church."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Miscellaneous"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791128872026112000,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:06:42.624Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T18:16:23Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:26:08Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"d878b691-bff2-4e96-85d9-a1495807a312","accessControl_ssim":["3d6609a4-6c7f-4286-8216-cb823889adbf"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Revitalization in Lancaster Presbyterian Church : a Case Study of the Implementation of the Ten Biblical Principles of the Embers to a Flame/Fanning the Flame Church Revitalization Model"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T18:16:22Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T04:19:24Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["228c0cdc-9790-4d1b-b8fb-0b5c131edcb2"],"hasLease_ssim":["cb15fdd7-b456-4284-8038-895da0bd875c"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Reformed Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["S Donald Fortson"],"year_tesim":["2018"],"location_tesim":["Pennsylvania--Lancaster","Pennsylvania"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Kelly Lee Negus"],"publisher_tesim":["Reformed Theological Seminary, Charlotte campus"],"subject_tesim":["Church history","Presbyterian Church","Church renewal--Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.)"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Can a healthy 200 year old congregation continue in successive steps of church revitalization? The foundation of understanding this question is rooted in his calling to lead the covenant community. The minister is called by God not only to preach but also to serve as a leader of worship. Many ministers surrender their role as worship leader to others and view their responsibility in worship to be limited to 'bringing the message'. It is vital that every Presbyterian minister re-examine his role as the primary leader in worship as it is an important part of his calling. The minister needs to recognize that God has set him apart for this service: to lead the worshipping community in doxological worship thus preparing the congregation to receive to hear the preached Word, and to proclaim God's blessing to His people."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Miscellaneous"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791128562659491840,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:01:47.589Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T22:59:40Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:01:25Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"a8019b17-e731-4c9b-b400-fc7c14bf7655","accessControl_ssim":["aa17cdaa-9cde-4425-bdd1-af485cf17237"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["The use of a world missions conference in a small church"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T22:59:39Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T03:00:09Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["502bdf27-2fb7-4df5-b7ba-b59b215b8e22"],"hasLease_ssim":["251688f3-538f-4d7e-9f94-7ea2f68b7eb9"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Reformed Theological Seminary"],"year_tesim":["1983"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Richard R Harris"],"keyword_tesim":["Religious surveys"],"publisher_tesim":["Reformed Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Chattanooga Valley Presbyterian Church (Tenn)","Small churches","Presbyterian Church","Missions"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["A survey showed that only 100 churches of a denomination held an annual world missions conference.
