When one considers the poverty, geopolitical distance, backward or even barbaric lifestyles, and spiritual resistance of these peoples, there is little wonder why they remain unreached.  The Lampungese of South Sumatra, Indonesia, represent such a people.  They are culturally separated from the Javanese and Batak Christians who live in their province.  They are geopolitically isolated from the main island of Java and they are economically and technologically challenged, having been slow to adjust to the modernization happening around them. The revitalization of a church is not revival or reformation. It is the biblically delineated and identified principles given to leaders to enable a church to move from its disabled and diseased status to one of vitality and health. This dissertation will point out the necessity of this ministry which will be clarified in the introduction of this paper. This dissertation has seven chapters. Chapter one explains why revitalization is necessary. Chapter two gives several key principles of church revitalization while chapter three gives a biblical paradigm for revitalization. The content of chapter four is a review of four contemporary books that have been written on the subject of revitalization. Chapter five highlights the 'Embers to a Flame' church revitalization conference materials and chapter six suggests several key roles that pastors and leadership can play in keeping their church vital and healthy. The first hypothesis, that there would be significant disagreement (defined as 15 percentage points) between the chaplains and civilian clergy on the issues surveyed, was proven false.  The data did support the second hypothesis, which stated that chaplains would be more informed than the civilian clergy on questions involving the chaplain-denominational relationship. The thesis was that churches that corporately emphasized the pastoral roles of enabler and evangelist grow more rapidly than those which place less emphasis on these roles.  A questionnaire was administered to two groups of churches -- a control group of churches that grows approximately ten percent per annum and a randomly selected group of churches that grow slowly or decline in size. The method of research demonstrates how the TSPM as a mass organization under the united front is wooing over Western evangelicals. The author then shows the response of Western evangelicals and gives a true account of the Chinese church situation. The church has increased from a new work in August of 1980 to 10,000 participants by August of 1985.  Its growth has come about largely through the extraordinary ability of pastor Tim Timmons to communicate to young, unchurched middle-class Americans and the church's highly organized commitment to forming small group ministries to meet the various needs of those who attend the church. The remaining 400 churches were small churches. Therefore the research and study was designed to measure the effectiveness of the use of a conference in a small church for prayer and financial support and personal commitment for mission involvement.  A conference was proposed to the Chattanooga Valley Presbyterian Church; it was accepted.  A committee was formed to plan, promote and conduct a conference with a speaker and missionary guests. The pre-test was given prior to two workshops at which the writer conducted seminars on team building principles. At the end of a year, the post-test was given and the scores were compared. The hypotheses were that those trained in lifestyle evangelism would report more witnessing encounters and time spent in prayer for the lost than those trained in traditional evangelism. The data for this study was taken from weekly evangelism surveys filed by each student participating in the study.
