Using AA co-founder Bill Wilson as the paradigm, the author studied the phenomenon, termed 'metaconversion,' in twenty AA members, detailing characteristics occurring before and after the experience.  Biblical and historical personages were studied for evidences of the phenomenon.  An analysis is made of how the Twelve Steps of AA fosters metaconversion.  There is a theological discussion of the phenomenon, a review of traditional and novel criticisms of AA, challenges AA presents to Christendom and new areas for investigation."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["San Francisco Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["38714359-d032-4ed0-ae3f-cb82c8f65a92"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799717938028085248,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T02:26:14.273Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T23:48:49Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T02:04:49Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"36295226-f992-4109-a7fe-db080b8b0d71","accessControl_ssim":["316e13ca-78e2-4d3c-a592-41d6279ee423"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["The spiritual dimension of the recovery process for drug and alcohol addiction"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T23:48:48Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T23:41:59Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["5802f5c3-6c27-4c9a-8927-42c91b71a62c"],"hasLease_ssim":["43e5f13a-0ff5-423f-a784-c1638e7a52cb"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["San Francisco Theological Seminary"],"year_tesim":["1988"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Gordon Lynwood Roberts"],"publisher_tesim":["San Francisco Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["United Methodist Church--South Georgia Conference","Alcohol","Alcoholics Anonymous","Alcoholism","Drug abuse","Spirituality"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This study results from efforts to lead chemically dependent persons on a course toward recovery. Investigating alcoholism-complicated marriages and a control group of non-alcholic couples revealed that non-drinking marriages can experience superior marital satisfaction.  Two factors contributed to this satisfaction: each marriage partner took responsibility for his or her own growth and change and both mates shared a common spiritual life. Demonstrating that religious conversion and alcoholism recovery are similar, new church program models are urged as well as offered by the writer, which incorporate the 12 steps of AA/Al-Anon and the Gospel."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["San Francisco Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["38714359-d032-4ed0-ae3f-cb82c8f65a92"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799719043527081984,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T02:43:48.559Z","score":1.0}],"facets":[{"name":"resource_type_sim","items":[{"value":"Unknown","hits":4,"label":"Unknown"}],"label":"Resource Type"},{"name":"creator_sim","items":[{"value":"A Philip Parham","hits":1,"label":"A Philip Parham"},{"value":"Gordon Lynwood Roberts","hits":1,"label":"Gordon Lynwood Roberts"},{"value":"Greg Martin","hits":1,"label":"Greg Martin"},{"value":"Michael D Simpson","hits":1,"label":"Michael D Simpson"}],"label":"Creator Sim"},{"name":"contributor_sim","items":[],"label":"Contributor"},{"name":"keyword_sim","items":[],"label":"Keyword"},{"name":"subject_sim","items":[{"value":"Alcoholics Anonymous","hits":4,"label":"Alcoholics Anonymous"},{"value":"Alcohol","hits":2,"label":"Alcohol"},{"value":"Alcoholism","hits":2,"label":"Alcoholism"},{"value":"Spirituality","hits":2,"label":"Spirituality"},{"value":"Conversion","hits":1,"label":"Conversion"},{"value":"Drug abuse","hits":1,"label":"Drug abuse"}],"label":"Subject"},{"name":"location_sim","items":[],"label":"Location"},{"name":"language_sim","items":[{"value":"English","hits":4,"label":"English"}],"label":"Language"},{"name":"publisher_sim","items":[{"value":"San Francisco Theological Seminary","hits":4,"label":"San Francisco Theological Seminary"}],"label":"Publisher"},{"name":"date_created_sim","items":[],"label":"Date Created"},{"name":"types_sim","items":[{"value":"Text","hits":4,"label":"Text"}],"label":"Type"},{"name":"year_sim","items":[{"value":"1983","hits":1,"label":"1983"},{"value":"1984","hits":1,"label":"1984"},{"value":"1988","hits":1,"label":"1988"},{"value":"1995","hits":1,"label":"1995"}],"label":"Year"},{"name":"format_sim","items":[],"label":"Format"},{"name":"member_of_collections_ssim","items":[{"value":"San Francisco Theological Seminary","hits":4,"label":"San Francisco Theological Seminary"}],"label":"Collections"},{"name":"degree_sim","items":[{"value":"Unknown","hits":4,"label":"Unknown"}],"label":"Degree"},{"name":"discipline_sim","items":[],"label":"Discipline"},{"name":"degree_granting_institution_sim","items":[{"value":"San Francisco Theological Seminary","hits":4,"label":"San Francisco Theological Seminary"}],"label":"Degree Granting Institution"},{"name":"department_sim","items":[],"label":"Department"},{"name":"funder_name_sim","items":[],"label":"Funder Name"},{"name":"event_title_sim","items":[],"label":"Event Title"},{"name":"event_date_sim","items":[],"label":"Event Date"},{"name":"institution_sim","items":[{"value":"Atla RIM","hits":4,"label":"Atla RIM"}],"label":"Host Institution"}],"pages":{"current_page":1,"next_page":null,"prev_page":null,"total_pages":1,"limit_value":10,"offset_value":0,"total_count":4,"first_page?":true,"last_page?":true}}}
