The dissertation probes New Testament material, historical material, and current thinking on ministry, including interviews with fifteen ministers in Churches of Christ, to provide some theological thinking about ministry. In spite of some lack of clarity, the ministers interviewed showed remarkable agreement that preaching was their defining role. The author examines the biblical and theological mandate for mission as this mandate applies to the Air Force chaplaincy. He compares a variety of methodologies, including church growth materials. The author concludes that the military chapel community is part of the body of Christ and has the obligation and opportunity to witness. Two of the important discoveries are that laypersons prefer faith sharing to evangelism and that the smorgasbord approach will allow for greater participation and use of the variety of the gifts in the church."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["San Francisco Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["38714359-d032-4ed0-ae3f-cb82c8f65a92"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799717624956846080,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T02:21:15.705Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T23:48:21Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T06:05:13Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"c4787d47-25d6-4f75-84bf-cc41247dae8a","accessControl_ssim":["96f57f0f-1572-4526-8e5a-6119f1a4bb77"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Developing a specialized ministry to the bereaved spouses of former cancer patients through case studies and pilot project"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T23:48:20Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T03:46:31Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["91ac40b0-e3cb-4745-a392-195199f48d01"],"hasLease_ssim":["4d82a043-d680-4ffd-8561-cc90b3003015"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["San Francisco Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Paul R Welter"],"year_tesim":["1988"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Charles A Moorer"],"publisher_tesim":["San Francisco Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Grief","Case studies","Church work","Cancer--Religious aspects","Pastoral counseling","Bereavement"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The purpose of this project was to study the problems and needs of the bereaved spouses of former cancer patients and to develop a specialized ministry.
