The author used this information to develp a theology of the family which adapts to the irregular schedules of such families. The theology is based on the concept of the covenant.  It focuses on the strengthening of and development of the relationships in the family, rather than on the preservation of set roles.  The family structure is seen as flexible and adaptive. Characteristics of successful families were distilled from the writings of Satir, Lewis, and Stinnett, resulting in these five points: 1. there is an orderly structure; 2. family values are verbalized and supported; 3. communication is open, direct, and honest; 4. problems are faced and solved; and 5. there is a strong sense of family. A historical analysis of the past twenty years revealed the rapid growth of Korean immigrants in America.  Such rapid growth caused extreme cultural shock and severe family crisis within the traditional Korean family system. The study concentrates on finding the basic needs of families by way of a community survey.  The findings of the survey resulted in the development of several possible responses a local church can make in meeting the needs of families. To reach out effectively it was discovered that people within the church needed to be equipped to do the work of ministry.
