This project examines how the church should treat divorced persons.  Using current literature and especially from the Bible and church history, the project conducts interviews with selected persons and compares regulations on marriage and divorce among various denominations, in order to formulate a new theology of marriage and divorce for KEHC and other denominations for the 1990s. The research was carried out during work with several divorce support groups in a Presbyterian Church in Spokane, Washington, and a Reformed Church in America congregation in Holland, Michigan.  The purpose of the project was to help congregations establish a ministry both with and to divorced persons, and to demonstrate its consistency with the gospel.  It will help readers to understand the divorce experience both psychologically and theologically.
