The long absence of the fathers will have undesirable influences on youths.  What problems stem from such a condition?  What pastoral program can measure them? Research was conducted using a questionnaire for two groups of juveniles: one having absent fathers and the other living with fathers.  Pastors were interviewed whose churches have youths with absent fathers. The author used this information to develp a theology of the family which adapts to the irregular schedules of such families. The theology is based on the concept of the covenant.  It focuses on the strengthening of and development of the relationships in the family, rather than on the preservation of set roles.  The family structure is seen as flexible and adaptive.
