Method: from the fields of suicidology, death and dying, theology, and pastoral care, the author presents characteristics of adolescent suicidal behaviour, explores despair and hope, applies these understandings to the process of healing, and compares the research to informed responses from United Church of Christ pastors. In the United Church of Christ, the situation is complicatd by an historical no-intrusion policy called autonomy.  This prevents or at least delays any quality intervention.  The author uses his own experience, as well as other resources, to build a workable, creative model of strategies that is offered as a contribution to ministry.  It is at once therapeutic, but suggestive of preventative directions as well.
