In this study, the writer critically studies the current preaching ministry of the Korean immigrant churches in Toronto, and offers impetus toward the renewal of the pulpit.  Research and interviews were conducted to examine the attitudes of the preachers and the laity toward the preaching ministry of the immigrant churches. A resultant question is raised: if the early church did express a messianic self-awareness, how should the contemporary church be influenced by the idea of an 'annointed' or messianic ministry in terms of preaching and community?  The method of study is to become conversant with the messianic antecedents found in the Old Testament and late Judaism. Attention is then turned to Jesus and the Synoptics as both re-interpreting the emerging messianic ideas.  Messianic preaching today incorporates both speaker and hearer into the messianic continuum. A life situational approach to preaching and teaching was developed for naval deployment, in light of the twentieth century American life situational preaching of Harry Emerson Fosdick and Edgar N Jackson, and Lewis Sherrill's theology and practice of Christian education.  A religious program resource (the study guide) was developed and was used successfully by naval shipboard chaplains. A growing dissatisfaction with present Protestant preaching indicates a need to pursue a style of preaching with greater use of story telling, imagination, narrative and metaphor.  Six doctrinal sermons which include rabbinic material and teaching style are field tested for their acceptability by church members. Here the preacher becomes the biblical character in a creative encounter of body, voice and Bible.  Such preaching is foreshadowed in the oral-aural era through icons and mystery plays.  The author contends that the church is still locked into the literary-print era with sermons preached from prepared manuscripts.  First person biblical preaching portrays the gospel in a visual format suited to the electronic multi-media culture of television and computers.
