The cases are reviewed along four parameters that define basic conditions needed for a human being to be well and to thrive: i.e., connection, identity, freedom, and power; and from three perspectives: family systems using Edwin Friedman's work, individual psychology using Karen Horney's work, and spiritual theology using Ignatius of Loyola's Spiritual Exercises. The research was carried out during work with several divorce support groups in a Presbyterian Church in Spokane, Washington, and a Reformed Church in America congregation in Holland, Michigan.  The purpose of the project was to help congregations establish a ministry both with and to divorced persons, and to demonstrate its consistency with the gospel.  It will help readers to understand the divorce experience both psychologically and theologically. An attempt is made to ascertain contributing factors, or conditions in the clergyman's life often present during extramarital involvement.  From these recurrent themes, inferences for prevention are drawn and discussed.  The study concludes with a consideration of the need for the church to readdress the areas of sexual theology, forgiveness, and restoration of repentent and petitioning clergymen. The purpose of this study was to develop a joint interchurch crisis counseling program which would be based on a psychological and theological point of view.  A twenty-four hour Christian crisis counselor training program was developed for six target churches, emphasizing a biblical basis for crisis counseling and Adam's nouthetic counseling system.
