Six clients from the agency were interviewed; the material from the interviews is presented as illustrative material for the discussion. The author has brought forth the story of the massacre at Indian Island, an island within the city of Eureka, California, that happened on February 26, 1860.  The author's intent was to bring forward public events of a spiritual nature that addressed remembrance, contrition and forgiveness. Many clergy wives experience God's love as real and believable in one's daily life.  A few women married to clergy do not experience authentic personhood.  The study identified programs, methodologies and strategies that were helpful.  One hundred-six clergy's wives responded to a survey instrument. Codependency identifies responses by individuals, family systems, and organizations to addiction.  They are attempts to restore balance to addicted systems.  Four students preparing for ministry volunteered for interviews about personal and family history.  All were self-identified children of alcoholics.  Three were female.  All identified male parents as alcoholic; none identified females.  This limited study suggests that codependency presents a useful model for identifying dysfunctional family patterns, and for predicting potentially troublesome areas in ministerial The writer reviewed relevant literature, wrote a position paper and field-tested a praxis section resulting from the study.
