Cathedrals are houses of prayer for all who come, whether they are pilgrims, tourists, church-wary attendees, or regular worshippers. This thesis finds that preaching in a way which is attentive to these guests is empowering for the faith of the regular cathedral worshipper. Those who live a life of faith bring many of the same questions and concerns as the guests from the secular, postmodern world. The context is a small suburban Episcopal church beginning a new ministry with their recently arrived priest. In various group feedback sessions, listeners expressed their understanding of how Benedictine values can shape the spiritual life of the church community and become part of its vision. Preaching the unique truths of the seventh-Day Adventist message in Great Britain continues to prove demanding. This thesis suggests and implements a seeker service approach to worship in order to preach the Adventist message in a manner which can be appreciated by the postmodern person living in London. It is my belief that it is possible to speak a redemptive biblical word from the pulpit that is informative, insightful, inspirational, and relevant to the lives of those who are sitting in church pews. It contends that examining the preaching of the first three centuries can assist the current preacher.  It further asserts that the preaching of the early church was more 'poetic' in nature and that by adopting a more poetic style we will be better equipped to preach in a pluralistic, post-modern environment and recapture a genre of biblical literature that has been neglected in the field of homiletics. Narrative liturgical sermons were preached over a three-month period in a large Catholic church. Small group interviews were done with a total of forty-one parishioners. This project offers a response to a need for more imagination in biblical hermeneutics for liturgical preaching. It also offers a homiletical model for applying such interpretation. Midrashic and theopoetic principles of storytelling were adapted to design a packaged approach that links biblical hermeneutics with homiletical technique. Quantitative and qualitative research was used to gather and evaluate data on the effectiveness of this method in the Diocese of St. Petersburg. Can lay voices speak a word from the Word? The thesis tests a model for hearing lay voices as preachers during the sermon time. The model is communal and arises from ancient lectio divina and modern theories of calling a circle. The model was tested and evaluated in a small, urban congregation. Participants were moved, and tended to view the model as preaching with one another.
