The student is introduced to four spiritual disciplines.  They are having a daily devotional time with God, sharing a personal salvation testimony, tithing, and serving with spiritual gifts.  After a ten-week class, the project was evaluated through questionnaires and focus groups. The covenant model was chosen because it most clearly defines several significant aspects of the Christian experience.  A believer's position in Christ, privileges, and responsibilities were all important topics of the course.  Chapter 2 defines covenant theology and expresses how this approach is beneficial to all believers. Chapter 3 reveals the foundational nature of all human development, including faith development.  Stage development theory, simply stated, is that all maturity progresses through a series of stages that are hierarchical in nature; meaning that they build upon one another. Christian maturity also depends upon a strong foundation for successful progress. Twenty adults who are mentally handicapped, as well as the congregation, participated in the project activities. The research instruments included interviews and questionnaires. Four formation sessions were conducted as an attempt to discover and address the faith needs of each person, followed by four worship services addressing those needs. The project was designed to contribute to the effectiveness of the ministry of the participating pastors by creating a caring, supportive community of peers.  Chapters two and three examined the biblical and historical foundations.  The biblical models of covenant and community were the primary foci.  Sketches of several leading theologians were presented in order to understand how support systems in spiritual growth have functioned effectively at significant times in the history of the Christian church.  Chapter four described the preparation for a implementation of the program.  Data was gatherd through questionnaires and interviews. The group design and various options for continuing support in spiritual growth were presented. The goals were: educate the congregation about faith development, and develop and adopt a ministry affirming childhood preconversions.  The pretest/posttest method measured the educational effectiveness of a preaching and teaching series.  The committee process developed and proposed for adoption a preconversion ministry.  Interviews with committee members provided subjective analysis of the entire project.  The goals were accomplished.
