Chapter 1 identified the challenges facing the church and defined the project's purpose. Chapter 2 explored the biblical concepts of spiritual gifts with special emphasis on the implications of spiritual possession and its relationship with the individual personality. Chapter 3 articulated the implications of using the Enneagram personality typologies as a tool for liberating the spirit within the individual. Chapter 4 outlined the Spiritual Gifts Workshop used to implement the program. Chapter 5 evaluated the effects of the workshop within both a short-term (six week) and long-term (five year) framework. The study involved use of a two group pretest/posttest to test for knowledge gain as well as three spiritual gift inventories.  Attitude change was measured by use of a semantic differential constructed for this project.  A focused interview was also conducted with small group participants.  The result of the project showed some significant change in attitude toward ministry involvement in those who understood themselves as gifted for ministry. This is achieved by leading each participant toward an understanding of certain biblical texts and by encouraging his or her participation in various learning activities. Two methods of research are employed in the project. Literary research is done in the fields of history, theology, and biblical studies.  Social research instruments measure effects on both a control and a treatment group. Chapter 1 offers the stated goals of the project, as well as an in-depth introduction into the church and local community surrounding the Eastern Shore of Virginia. Chapter 2 specifically addresses the biblical, theological, and historical foundations for spiritual gifts. A thorough examination of God's active Spirit in both the Old and New Testaments is presented. Chapter 3 discusses three current training programs for spiritual gifts-based discipleship ministries as they relate to the local church. Two existing church models will also be highlighted as well. Chapter 4 is the step-by-step implementation of the ministry project that was successfully completed at Modest Town Baptist Church. A detailed analysis of all relevant statistical information is also presented and discussed within the context of this chapter. Chapter 5 offers an evaluation of the ministry project.
