This model involves seven biblical factors that function together in bringing God's people back to him in transformation and restoration. Chapter 1 introduces the thesis in the context of the background study and methodology and lays the foundation for the research dissertation. Chapter 2 exegetes the specific verses in Joel 1 and 2 that provide the model for Spiritual Awakening. Chapter 3 investigates whether the seven factors were present in the Four Great Awakenings in Early America from 1740 to the beginning of the 20th Century. Chapter 4 records the quantitative data from a survey of Texas Baptist Churches in the North Central Texas Council of Governments 16 county region and evaluates the critical interviews with the five members of the Solemn Assembly Team. This model is based on an exposition of 9 selected Old Testament scriptural texts, in which Moses faced conflict when leading the sons of Israel in the wilderness, using historical-grammatical analysis to determine each passage's meaning. The research revealed a distinct pattern of Moses's response to conflict and universal principles. The project goal is renewed zeal in church leaders to be involved in ministry. Project activities attempt to change attitudes and behaviors in the deacon body. Deacons will participate in joint ministry with a growing church in a similar ministry context. Deacons will assess the church's present ministry in a one-day retreat. Deacons' attitudes will be challenged through a survey of unchurched nonbelievers in the community. Deacons will examine biblical ministry mandates in a ten-week seminar. In the final two meetings, deacons will formulate plans for involving other church members in ministry, reflecting their changed attitudes and behavior in ministry. The initial research and review was accomplished through interviews and pastoral as well as church input, and through biblical study and insight, the need for additional training was evident. As a result of this investigation, the conclusion was reached that the project leader would develop a six-month deacon leadership model. In summary, the goal of this project to assist prospective deacons in discovering their true ministerial calling was reached. Project goals helped the project leader develop his leadership skills; helped the trainees grow spiritually and develop their discipleship skills; and helped the church accept and promote the Shepherd Group Ministry. The project was conducted in three stages: the enlistment of potential leaders, the training of the leaders, and the enlistment of leaders and assignment of participants to specific Shepherd Groups.
