Chapter 1 presents the history and ministry context of Providence, the purpose and goals of this project, and the methodology used. Chapter 2 addresses care as a vital component of healthy discipleship; showing biblical soul care flows from God, is motivated by love, reflects Christ, and is best practiced in community by exegesis of several passages of scripture (2 Cor 1:3-7, 1 John 4:7-12, and Heb 10:24-25). Chapter 3 highlights the history and language of soul care, the relationship between care and discipleship, the responsibility of soul care for every believer, and necessity of care being rooted in God’s Word. Chapter 4 outlines the project and addresses specific methodology and equipping content. Phase one will consist of the establishment of a group composed of ten to twelve postmodern persons. This group will be surveyed, interviewed, and will participate in a group discussion of issues relevant to the postmodern. The project leader will facilitate these meetings over a ten-week period. This group will seek to add new members weekly through the outreach efforts of the participants. Attendance records will be maintained, and the assimilation of postmoderns into the church will be measured via the Bible study ministry of the church. In the second phase a group of twenty to twenty-five church leaders will be assimilated to help evaluate how the church is responding to the needs of postmoderns. These participants will be surveyed and interviewed and will participate in a discussion of issues identified by the postmodern participants. The knowledge of these church leaders will be measured via pre and post tests. Phase three will be implemented in the worship service through a series of sermons designed to address the needs of a postmodern generation. Participants of both groups will conduct an analysis of the worship. The purpose of this project is to develop and enhance the church's efforts to engage postmoderns and to claim the postmodern context for Jesus Christ. It is built upon a biblical framework that offers the Christian worldview as plausible and credible to the postmodern person. It chooses to train church leaders concerning the postmodern context and seeks to initiate relationships between the postmodern, a community of faith, and church leadership."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["b2ad2862-737d-4dde-8145-b9b6962ac5f3"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791133093362401280,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:13:48.405Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T09:54:38Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:47:01Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"024852a4-51a1-4f95-9d34-5b32ba93ad4a","accessControl_ssim":["f193a4fd-f642-4777-b02d-ff475348fcf4"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Preparing African American small group leaders to use Bible study materials in a way that is culturally inclusive and sensitive"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T09:54:36Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T22:10:59Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["ff7c8ead-82f1-4870-b9dc-6b1766be805b"],"hasLease_ssim":["067aea84-6449-4cbd-a7ff-7e264a4c22a2"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Calvin F Pearson"],"year_tesim":["2005"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Earl L Potts"],"publisher_tesim":["Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Concord Church (Dallas, Tex)","Hermeneutics","African American churches","Small groups"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The purpose of this project is to prepare African American small group leaders at Concord Missionary Baptist Church, Dallas, Texas to translate their current small group curriculum and make it culturally inclusive and sensitive to their African American cell group members.
