Eight congregation members were enlisted to participate in the Community Cultivation training. The project included four weeks of discipleship and training related to biblical principles on prayer, servanthood, and evangelism.  This training period was followed by six weeks of Community Cultivation activity in the neighborhood. Its purpose is to be of benefit to the Project Leader, the participating pastors and the Baptist General Convention of Texas.  As a beginning point the project leader will select a group of culturally diverse pastors whose churches cooperate with the Baptist General Convention of Texas.  These pastors will attend training sessions designed to assist them in their understanding of vision in general; however, the focus is the vision of the Baptist General Convention of Texas.  Other training sessions will involve the study of church and community demographics and an examination of the culture of the pastor and his congregation. Finally, the pastors will be encouraged to discover how the vision of the Baptist General Convention of Texas might be relevant in their culture and environment.  The vision of the Baptist General Convention of Texas is built around the concept of churches being the presence of Christ in the world. This pilot program seminar consisted of meeting surveyed needs of ministers through reading research, creating personal philosophies, and evaluation their personal programs. The results indicated that ministers wanted to be equipped to do ministry; therefore, validating this certification program. The certification program seminars will include pre-seminar assignments, as well as a post-seminar evaluation. A small group was offered an opportunity to participate in 1) concentrated training for basic youth ministry, 2) observation in churches with comprehensive, healthy youth ministries and 3) personal mentoring time dealing with ministry issues.  Predominatly Hispanic conference leaders from around the state led the training sessions, thus providing teaching as well as contacts and role models for them. Observations increased application ideas.  Mentoring allowed personal growth based upon their personal needs. The goal of this project was to design a ministry team structure for the local church to engage members in ministry.  A study group was involved in discovery and developmental strategy sessions to asses church needs, description of ministry teams and the design of a structure. The church participated in teaching sessions and completed a survey to determine involvement in ministry teams. It included only the first six sessions of a proposed twenty four session strategy. The project was effective as a pilot strategy and will continue to be edited. The curricula was a combination of materials complied by the project leader and materials written by the project leader. The project leader read books, studied other discipleship materials, conducted interviews, and utilized several evaluations tools to attain and measure the goals of this strategy. Participants at the Recreation and Sports Ministry Conference in Lake Yale, Florida, were surveyed along with Recreation Administration graduates from Oklahoma Baptist University.
