A specific focus is put upon grief as expressed individually and corporately.  Research was done with individuals and the congregation as a whole.  A qualitative approach was used, blending the themes of grounded theory and participant observation.  Specific methods included a journal, conversational interviews, and liturgical services.  Positive results were gained from having individuals and the congregation deal purposefully with their grief rather than denying its reality. It was a program developed by a group in the congregation under the author's leadership.  This program engaged a significant number from the congregation in a study throughout ten months of a year that involved biblical, historical, theological and pastoral aspects of Christian worship, and the development of a planning process for worship services.
