It was a program developed by a group in the congregation under the author's leadership.  This program engaged a significant number from the congregation in a study throughout ten months of a year that involved biblical, historical, theological and pastoral aspects of Christian worship, and the development of a planning process for worship services. The first learning event describes the facilitation of a series of three training sessions in which skilled Catholic campus ministers came together to design a training and renewal experience.  The second learning event describes how the methodology and theory of the initial training sessions was carried out in a training and renewal program. The methods used were sociologically framed and praxis based. They were informed by qualitative research (grounded theory) and colored by the author's own poetic, intuitive learning. Leis, the author, assumes that the church has been called by God to be a seedbed and spawning ground for stories. This action-reflection project with 19 members of St Paul's United Church was designed to animate lay people within a supportive environment to explore an opportunity for ministry.  Utilizing the Structuralist method of biblical interpretation, T H Groome's praxis method of theological reflection, and papers and exercises on the history and faith of the church, participants explored and wrote personal statements of faith concerning their ministry.  They then identified their gifts and analyzed them according to skills, which were then categorized by priority.  The third section explored personal mission through study papers and a pairing exercise to identify the specific context and meaning of ministry. Five workshops, with continual evaluation and reflection, were conducted in three settings: in a cluster of churches, in a continuing education course for ministers involving theological reflection, and in one local church.  There was steady growth in understanding by facilitator and participants. It reviews why and how amalgamation took place, and surfaces the need for an appraisal in response to new insights and perspectives.  In rural realignment, 'small is beautiful' and attitudinal and spiritual dimensions play an important part.  The report relates the work of the candidate with his Ministry Base Group and with people who experienced amalgamation: those whose churches were closed, those who were in the host churches, the ministers of closed churches, and the people who prevented their churches from closing.  Amalgamation was, for the most part, a negtive experience with a legacy of unresolved problems. The major research component consisted of a survey of  management attitudes and values in the area served by  King-Bay Chaplaincy.  The findings of the survey and the survey process itself influenced the strategy and development of the chaplaincy. The entire ministry of the chaplaincy is experimental in nature, as it is not based on a traditional model of ministry.  The Project Report is an account of the evolution of the new ministry, based on a problem solving approach which utilizes the research data from the survey in its planning process.
