It considers how preaching through a framework of substitutionary atonement, can help shape the incorporation of this doctrine into the congregation's life and self-understanding. The paper uses as a framework the theology of Thomas Torrance, who combines reformed soteriology with patristic Christology to overcome some of the objections to this doctrine. Exodus 34 and the prologue of John's Gospel form the biblical basis for this approach to substitutionary atonement. The paper commends substitutionary atonement as part of a framework for lectionary preaching."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Miscellaneous"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799717396638859264,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T02:17:37.964Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T18:17:08Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T06:33:15Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"7103d6a6-9fde-45c2-9e7f-6b329b0a469e","accessControl_ssim":["277efe06-b898-4852-aca8-5c066464de03"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["An Assessment of Denominational Resources and Guidance Available Relating to End-of-Life Pastoral Care in the Anglican Church in North America, Diocese of Western Anglicans, Deaneries of San Diego and Los Angeles"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T18:17:07Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T01:26:37Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["74c07a9e-b103-46fe-9afb-648f4baaa769"],"hasLease_ssim":["8f988a44-7df4-45af-a423-e59d36d14dbc"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Trinity Episcopal School for Ministry (Ambridge, PA)"],"advisor_tesim":["Scott Santibanez"],"year_tesim":["2018"],"location_tesim":["United States"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["James D Hearn"],"publisher_tesim":["Trinity Episcopal School for Ministry (Ambridge, PA)"],"subject_tesim":["Pastoral theology--Anglican Communion","Death--Religious aspects--Christianity","Church work with the terminally ill","Church history","Anglican Communion--Clergy","Pastoral theology"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This thesis examines the difficulties faced by parish clergy serving in the Diocese of Western Anglicans of the Anglican Church in North America in attempting to access denominational resources and secure guidance when called upton to minister to congregants facing complex end-of-life issues. Discoveries will yield strengths, weaknesses, and questions for future discussion."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Miscellaneous"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791131127370481664,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:42:33.489Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T17:23:20Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T06:13:27Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"4e14d922-755e-4f72-81a7-582ae1ff6826","accessControl_ssim":["6c817ab2-840f-48b9-9d7f-906761567bf5"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Biblical literacy and its influence in congregational leadership."],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T17:23:19Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T00:25:34Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["cf274a84-b4d3-4f06-964b-0e45c231a4c7"],"hasLease_ssim":["a0dec259-b2d4-424d-ab50-e35c6cb32dc7"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Trinity Episcopal School for Ministry (Ambridge, PA)"],"advisor_tesim":["Rich Herbster"],"year_tesim":["2016"],"location_tesim":["England"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Joel T Grigg"],"publisher_tesim":["Trinity Episcopal School for Ministry"],"subject_tesim":["Wilmer, Richard H. This translates into a growing fundamental problem with the church's ability to be witnesses of the gospel. The Bible itself testifies to it power to change lives as do the Anglican Reformers; particularly Thomas Cranmer and Richard Hooker. This project builds upon the testimony of these witnesses by leading congregational leaders in a simple Bible reading program. It shows that such biblical engagement not only increases factual knowledge but also increase the depth of one's own personal spiritual commitment and ministry satisfaction."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Miscellaneous"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791125525379416064,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T06:13:31.014Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T17:21:11Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:38:41Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"f1b0c15e-3fcb-41f9-bc75-672efb6643e5","accessControl_ssim":["e5bf0b6d-0803-45cd-83dc-04cdbe7fe45c"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Chaplaincy and the Great commission"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T17:21:10Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T05:01:57Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["b28aaa23-9cfe-4304-8ab9-fba25631997f"],"hasLease_ssim":["51da2b70-fab8-4276-a88a-e22bac59855e"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Trinity Episcopal School for Ministry (Ambridge, PA)"],"advisor_tesim":["Erika Moore"],"year_tesim":["2016"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Andrea Herlong"],"keyword_tesim":["Commissions--Biblical teaching"],"publisher_tesim":["Trinity Episcopal School for Ministry (Ambridge, PA)"],"subject_tesim":["Chaplains, Hospital","Bible--Study"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This thesis examines how Christian clinical chaplains stay faithful to Christ while working in an environment which prohibits non-requested faith sharing. It explores this challenge through the biblical stories of Joseph in Nebuchadnezzar's Court, Daniel in Pharaoh's Court, Esther in the court of Xeroxes, and through the teachings of Jesus. The writings of Luther, Calvin, Packer, Newbigin, and Kirkwood were researched for their theological implications for ministry in church and state. Christian chaplains and supervisors were interviewed to describe their ministries. Their answers were helpful in understanding how to minister as a Christian chaplain in a diverse interfaith/intercultural hospital."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Miscellaneous"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791130887051542528,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:38:44.303Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T17:14:37Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:26:31Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"d8d2e134-7ea2-42d7-96c3-1b219b7e23d5","accessControl_ssim":["7940d160-edb9-4931-8e1d-64a9faf20cd8"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Men and spiritual maturity an examination of the factors impeding discipleship among older men in an Anglican congregation"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T17:14:36Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T04:19:56Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["dbca3819-d510-4cee-8f75-817178a7a645"],"hasLease_ssim":["63f6ed03-533c-424c-8c8c-daa5c0b8f0e4"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Trinity Episcopal School for Ministry (Ambridge, PA)"],"advisor_tesim":["Philip E Harrold"],"year_tesim":["2016"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Brian G Campbell"],"publisher_tesim":["Trinity Episcopal School for Ministry (Ambridge, PA)"],"subject_tesim":["O'Donovan, Oliver","Church work with men","Christian life"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Confusion over a failed attempt at reconfiguring our parish's 'Discipleship Process' sparked the research question for this study.
