While the Church is possessed of rich foundational resources capable of providing bioethical guidance, the data obtained through field research suggests that clergy are either unaware of such resources or face difficulties or confusion in locating, interpreting, and applying them. This work examines biblical prayer in both the Old and New Testaments, as well as investigates the history of prayer practice in the Presbyterian polity. Using a pro-active research method, members were surveyed and interviewed, resulting in a grief program which includes education, grief groups and systematic follow-up. It was discovered during the project that evangelism was a surprising benefit of the grief process.
