The researcher examined the biblical teaching of key passages on tithing, analyzing them through historical development of the scriptures. The researcher also assessed existing views on tithing by various scholars. The study used a pro-active research method. Questionnaires, interviews, and church records were the research instruments. Biblical references for giving are considered in context and for application in a postmodern world. Stewardship's development is traced to its formation at the height of 'modern' confidence in humanity's ability to master money and economic systems. This confidence is contrasted with Jacques Ellul's analysis of money's ability to control human lives and divert them from God's purposes. A stewardship campaign that is based on postmodern principles is descibed, and its effectiveness evaluated.
