Exodus"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This Doctor of Ministry Project researched six pastors in Western North Carolina to see how they balance administrative duties and evangelistic efforts to produce a healthy church. The project began from my experience of pastoring three churches in the area and experiencing the struggles firsthand. It then looked into the Scriptures to understand the historical accounts and theology of administration and evangelism to comprehend the responsibilities of pastors. Further research was conducted from literature to evaluate what others say about the subject and if they have discovered this problem.  The data was collected through qualitative research of interviews with six pastors. The interviews were conducted with ten questions to discover how they balance administrative duties and evangelistic efforts as a pastor. The interviews were analyzed and synthesized from their experiences, theology, and literary viewpoints for the conclusions.The research results showed a problem among pastors who have administrative demands on them because of the expectation of the congregation or the lack of others willing to take responsibility. The research also showed that evangelism efforts fail to reach the community because of the heavy administrative load of the pastor. The final results show, pastors that do have a balance, revamped or updated how administration is done, to simplify it for both him and the congregation. The process of updating the administration did require time for trust to build between the pastor and the congregation. The goal of the project was not to define a long-term plan, but rather learn lessons for a potential future implementation of sermon-based community groups incorporated as a part of the shepherding strategy for the pastoral staff of Inter-City Baptist Church in Allen Park, Michigan.The genesis of the project began at The Church of the Open Bible in Burlington, Massachusetts, where I served as pastor along with fellow elders. We discussed different strategies to aid us in shepherding the believers in God in our assembly, including practical steps to disciple one another. After a few small-group book studies and trial sermon-based groups were completed, it was decided to pursue a pilot program for sermon-based community groups. After having resigned as pastor there, I was afforded the opportunity to complete the project at Inter-City Baptist Church, where I served previously on pastoral staff. The project was completed with three groups: one that met on Sunday evening, a men's only group on Monday morning, and a third on Wednesday evening.This project surveyed some biblical theological principles as a basis for sermon-based community groups. The project also surveyed some current key literature on the topic of small groups in general and sermon-based groups in particular.The project concluded with an evaluation meeting with the pastoral staff. Edward Copeland"],"subject_tesim":["Baptist Church","Missions","African American churches","Congregational Church"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This Doctor of Ministry project created a strategic plan to transform the way a historically African-American church named New Zion Baptist Church in Rockford, Illinois, does ministry in a multi-ethnic context. This project report detailed the process by which that strategic plan was formulated, evaluated, and designed to be implemented.The project report began by providing the biblical and theological foundations for ethnic diversity within God's worshipping community. The project report also examined the current literature on multi-ethnic congregations and the contextual dynamics of African-American church history that impact ministry praxis.The project was divided into a research phase and a synthesis phase. The research phase was designed to understand the current and projected demographics of the region and to ascertain the church's capacity and willingness for intercultural hospitality in light of the surrounding community's burgeoning immigrant Latino population. The synthesis phase of the project analyzed and interpreted the data and developed and evaluated a strategic plan with the help of the church leadership, membership, and ministry partners.The project report concluded with a summary of the internal and external challenges New Zion must face in order to implement the strategic plan and the implications of this project for the local church and the church at large. In Eph. 4:11-32; Paul shows the responsibility of the pastor/teacher or shepherd to 'perfect the saints.' God has given the Holy Spirit, the Word of God, and the church as means for every believer to grow. The pastor of First Baptist church of Pecatonica, Illinois, developed six messages from the Ephesians 4 passage and preached them in the Sunday morning worship services of the church. The people were given pre-sermon and post-sermon surveys as well as a five-day devotional each week. The purpose was to determine if spiritual grow took place over this time through the messages preached. The purpose of this study was to develop a strategic plan that will encourage these institutions to pursue an accreditation model.  This study identified five impediments to this pursuit. 1.         Insufficient academic preparation of professors2.         Excessive government restrictions3.         Poor economic situation in country4.         Lack of interest/Lack of knowledge of benefits5.         Low academic level of studentsThis quantitative data was obtained through a Delphi survey of twenty-two individuals from three distinct subgroups: (1) Independent Baptist missionaries actively involved in pastoral training in Spanish-speaking Latin America, (2) Independent Baptist Hispanic pastors or professors who were trained in Latin America and who retain involvement in this ministry, and (3) Independent Baptist theological educators who have experience with the accreditation process.  Through the Delphi survey the participants suggested the above-mentioned impediments to the pursuit of an accreditation model.  The Delphi expert panel also provided qualitative data by sharing additional insight into the nature of the impediments through comments made within the survey and personal conversations with the author.Once the five impediments had been identified a Delphi support team worked with the author to develop a strategic plan to address each impediment.  Specific goals were set, and action steps were identified. Throughout the Scriptures and history, there are multiple examples of those who were called to that challenging and lonely task.  This project developed a framework for preaching in the post-disaster context, based on analysis of sermons preached on the Sunday following the 2017 landfall of Hurricane Harvey in Texas and interviews of the pastors who preached those sermons.  This project also includes analysis and synthesis of data from surveys. Discipleship is deeply rooted in scripture.  Even at a cursory look, one can easily see its importance to the church. There have been countless books, studies, programs, and training opportunities available for pastors and churches to educate their people about discipleship.  However, the process of evaluating one’s effectiveness in discipleship is often a piece of the puzzle that is left out.  This project journals one churches process of defining, assessing, and cultivating their holistic process of disciple making.  As you continue to lead your church through this process of evaluation, you may find this research helpful to your process.  No two churches are alike, and no two evaluations will be identical.
