This was the reality of Hope Community ChurchDowntown (HCC DT) in Minneapolis, MN at the time of this paper’s formation. Specific areasof challenge which have been explored include growth from small to large and transitions inleadership between generation and senior leaders. The fortification of the church depends onbuilding an accurate list of common challenges that can be later addressed by church staff andleadership.The process utilized to accomplish that purpose included robust biblical and literatureresearch followed by interviews with seven pastors serving in churches similar to HCC DT. Theinitial research led to a preliminary list of challenges which were then utilized in interviews todetermine their relative validity within the lived experiences of pastors. Analysis of the researchand field work revealed five significant findings churches must address for the sake of long-termendurance: (1) Answer the question, “Who are we today?”, (2) Address unavoidable realities, (3)Foster the following, (4) Protect against these, and (5) Achieve success in pastoral succession.Each of these is explained and illustrated with real-life examples from within local churches.Upon completion of this project, a list of common challenges was presented to the eldersand staff of HCC DT. Project"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Tim Graham"],"subject_tesim":["Ministry","Church and social problems","Theology, Doctrinal"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This project seeks an understanding of issues related to African Traditional Religion (ATR) that bear upon the churches of the pastors attending a biannual conference on preparing exegetical sermons and to develop a theological statement to be used to discourage ATR from further infiltrating the local churches represented at the conference. The pastors, mostly from South Africa, participated in a Delphi research process that promoted individual input about each person’s encounter with ATR issues in the first round. This input was reviewed and prioritized by the participants in the second two rounds identifying the five most significant challenges of ATR to their local churches. The study concluded with a roundtable discussion intending to address the influence of ATR and whether a theological statement would be helpful in that endeavor. Because the environment being addressed was a pastors’ conference on exegesis, the goal was to influence the preaching of these pastors in a way that would address the influence of ATR. Matthew"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Genealogies have been one of the least studied literary forms in biblical scholarship over the years. This major project designs a seminary curriculum on the genealogy of Matthew and contends that Matthew’s Gospel, a synoptic and historical record similar to Chronicles, closely follows the Chronicler’s ideology and methodology. Thus, Matthew’s genealogy is purposefully devised to contain breaks (which I define as every insertion and deviation beyond the normal pattern of father begat son in the genealogy). These breaks highlight the numerical discrepancy of generations which are based on the pattern and concept of Chronicles are used to convey the unique Matthean message, and also function as an introduction to the whole book, just as the genealogies in Chronicles. The interpretations of the breaks and the numerical discrepancy of generations show a Christ-centered, suffering theology-based yet hope filled, and incarnation-powered life for Christians as well as an inclusive mindset, marginal-esteemed mentality, retribution-saturated, and cultic-oriented ministry for churches in addition to an influential-exerted leadership.This project does more than teach the genealogy per se; instead, it explains the canonical priority of Matthew in the New Testament, enhances the knowledge of canonical reading of Scripture through studying the relationship between Chronicles and Matthew, demonstrates connections between the Old Testament and New Testament, contributes appreciation for often ignored portions of Scripture, identifies synoptic relationships in different parts of the Bible, teaches a way of interpreting the synoptic texts, strengthens the ability to read the biblical text, provides the transformational applications for Christian life and church ministry from the interpretations, includes the suggestions of improving the curriculum through multiple evaluation instruments, and provides plans for future teaching ministry. To do that in the postmodern and post Christendom age, a missional church would need the full utilization of the ministry of the Word. in all its forms for all levels, from personal to congregational.  It required developing ministry expressions that properly adapt to the very complex and rapidly changed ministry context, and at the same time that ensured these expressions to be firmly rooted in the Biblical foundation and centered in the gospel of Jesus Christ. The theological vision that was derived from the theological framework for the given ministry context was key to fulfill that purpose effectively. This project was a discipleship training pilot program for all ministry leaders. The program first presented to the trainees the big picture of how the ministry of the Word transformed the lives of believers as holy priests through the worshiping lives of the church to produce fruitful results. It then taught the trainees the process of utilizing it: to build the theological framework that was the foundation of ministry, to develop the ministry platforms that enabled effective ministry utilization, and to derive the theological vision that connected the Biblical foundation to the ministry expression forgiven ministry contexts. The results from the evaluation of the program showed that the project had reached the initial goals in understanding the basic concepts and their theological foundation. However, the program had too much content. Until the twentieth century, the impact of cross-cultural factors on the effectiveness and efficiency of international workers was not a serious consideration in the English-speaking world.Mission agency training remained somewhat static until end of the twentieth century when several studies reported on missionary attrition factors and multi-national entities began to evaluate their losses due to cross-cultural issues. ReMAP and ReMAPII collated much data on missionary attrition, identifying several factors as preventable. Several of these factors pointed back to potential weaknesses in preparation and screening missionary candidates for cross-cultural work.In response to this problem, this study presents the need for missionary Pre-Field Orientation and Training (PFOT) and lays a foundation that includes biblical, theological, historical, and practical reasons. The research includes ancient and current literature as well as case studies of the Pre-Field Orientation and Training programs of three major evangelical mission agencies.The study produced a PFOT plan for Faith Global Missions that utilizes current technology and educational methods. The number of members in an organization argues for attention and influence in the marketplace of ideas. It is a barometer of how participants view the value and relevance of an organization. Like other professional associations, CMDA's efforts to acquire and retain members has not produced the same results as in the past. The number of new members has not kept pace with those cancelling their memberships. Concern over CMDA's failure to retain members has motivated the present study.The process of investigating the problem of membership retention included an internal analysis of CMDA's efforts, a literature review of professional associations and perspectives drawn from organizational and biblical change. Research suggested that a number of external forces in the last twelve years may have contributed to a drop in membership renewals: economic upheaval, dramatic generational shifts, technological changes, increased competition, and unprecedented changes in healthcare. Internally, due to its age and previous success, CMDA may have failed to respond to younger generation's expectations for greater value and benefits. It is also home to several historic and renowned Christian ministries. At the same time, however, MegaMetro is home to a dispersed and diverse group of an estimated 500,000 Muslims of which the church has largely left unengaged. In fact, there is no Muslim background believer church in the area. While many other cities in the United States have Iranian churches, MegaMetro has none.Meanwhile, exciting reports of Church Planting Movements (CPMs) have sprung up around the world, especially among Muslim populations. Missionaries and other believers active in some of these movements have formed Ephesus Teams as multi-organizational, collaborative partnerships to create synergy and maintain momentum.This project was initiated as an investigative study to learn more about these Ephesus Teams and to apply the learning to MegaMetro. The research done was qualitative, through the use of Interview Protocols. Six Ephesus Teams were studied through in-depth interviews with eleven key leaders. At the same time, a study was also made of workers ministering among Muslims in MegaMetro through thirteen face-to-face interviews.The research found that while the Ephesus Teams are seeing significant fruit in several difficult places around the world, workers in MegaMetro are largely frustrated. The project considers the biblical mandate to pursue humility, exegeting both narrative and didactic passages from the New and Old Testament, and then considers secular and Christian literature on the topic of humility and leadership. The field research includes qualitative and quantitative data seeking the perspectives of both clergy and lay leaders on what effective, humble leadership should look like and evaluates the responses in light of the biblical material and literature studied. The conclusion of the project is that humble, non-personality-driven church ministry is not only possible but should be pursued in a context of team leadership, accountability, and personal disciplines. To accomplish this SWOT analysis, there were four steps to this research project: A literature review, Biblical research on the family, twelve semi-structured interviews with FEB pastors, and an elders’ review of our FIC model at Grace Baptist Church in Alliston, Ontario. By doing this research project, I hoped to understand this ministry model better and sought to focus our local church disciple-making practices. The information gleaned from this research project confirmed for me some of what I already knew anecdotally; there is a crisis in children’s and young adult ministry of which the family is a key part of both the problem and solution. Questionnaires were sent to 34 churches, groups, or individuals around the world, who were involved in a small group ministry.  Out of this research, several convictions grew which gave direction to our approach.  The necessity of building discipleship of a corporate nature caused us to investigate the level of desire among previously 'discipled' people in the church.  A Leadership Training Group Manual and two leadership training groups were developed.  Nine couples and one individual were equipped for this ministry.
