Its leaders built a high wall of separation around the fundamentals of the faithto protect them from the innovations of modernism. The wall kept cultural threats out, but it alsokept a particular era of Christian culture in. While America later experienced the most rapidcultural upheavals in its history, fundamentalism remained largely unchanged within its walls,and the cultural chasm grew wider and wider. Some of the children of fundamentalism have nowleft these walls and are in search of something new.This project seeks to help these “travelers” on their journey. Twenty focus groups withself-identified “recovering fundamentalists” identified several patterns of personal pain alongwith lessons learned that could benefit others. Nine interviews with experienced pastors yieldedbest practices in shepherding travelers as they enter evangelical churches. These results werecollated to produce four key findings:1. Living with the disapproval and disappointment of fundamentalist parents aftertransitioning.2. Learning how to trust authority (of leaders and of the Bible) after being told to “justtrust” and not ask questions.3. Moving from a model of sanctification that is guilt-based to one that is grace-based.4. Corinthians II","Pastoral counseling","Psychology"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This Doctor of Ministry Major Project was intended to assess the extent to which people experience spiritual healing of past wounds through a series of small group gatherings focused on teaching and experiencing the spiritual healing of Jesus Christ.The project began with identifying the biblical and theological foundation for Jesus healing people from their wounds—not only physical but also emotional or spiritual. Then examining what people in other disciplines—such as social science, counseling, and business—also think, believe and teach about healing or restoration from past wounds.The intervention involved a small group of six participants experiencing a series of eight small group gatherings. They filled out a Pre-Group and Post-Group Questionnaire. After five small group gatherings of teaching, experiencing and praying, there were two Focus Groups which allowed the participants to share feedback about what they learned, experienced and thought.The data from the two Questionnaires and the Focus Groups was analyzed in order to assess the effectiveness of these small group gatherings to lead participants toward the spiritual healing of Jesus Christ. There are different sections for families how to plan for the end of life and take care of their own health. The issues are 'when does life begin?', 'reproductive technology', 'facing end of life issues', and 'same sex relationships and the church.' The result of 102 pastors surveyed were tabulated using a Likert and percentage scale format. Graphs were used to demonstrate the pastors' responses in contrast with evangelical bioethical literature. Volunteers took part in an intensive eight-week Christian caregiving course.  The course was designed to equip members with the basic skills necessary to provide competent pastoral care.  Three evaluative tools were used as the primary data gathering instruments: a caregivers' survey, a caregivers' interest questionnaire, and the Christian caregivers' course evaluation.  Results indicated that participants had the passion, gifts, and skills necessary for a care-oriented ministry. This work focuses primarily on the grief associated with death.  Rather than helping pastors to find the right answers, attention is given to helping pastors ask the right questions in cross-cultural grief care. This paper examines the biblical and theological foundation of 'pastoral care,' then traces the development of the pastoral care worker system developed at First Christian Reformed Church in London, Ontario. The writer interviewed a random sampling of both pastoral care workers and members of the congregation to determine to what degree the pastoral care given and received was accepted. A 'Training Manual for Pastoral Care Workers' was developed and is included in the paper. The study determines that the pastoral care system developed at First Christian reformed Church in London respects the traditional understanding of the Office of Elder as accepted in reformed churches, but expands the options for ministry by involving others who have spiritual gifts for pastoral care ministry. The writer used a specific strategy of introducing innovations that helped the congregation accept this non-traditional pastoral care delivery system.
