Drawing upon biblical theology, the practices of the early church, the experience and practice of 18 churches and prayer ministries notable for their example and influence, the study examines principles for developing sustained, faith-filled prayer ministry. There has been decline in prayer among American Christians due to distractions, theological misconceptions, and diminished expectancy, and these trends undermine the transformative power of the American Church. Through a review of Scripture, early Church Fathers, and contemporary best practices, the project emphasizes the indispensable role of prayer in individual and corporate life. The work proposes a biblically grounded and practically applicable model of prayer ministry tailored for evangelical and charismatic churches, incorporating structured teaching, consistent practice, and especially leadership example. Data from the author’s home church Family Christian Center of Munster, IN, including prayer meeting participation and documented answered prayers, demonstrates the effectiveness of such a model. Ultimately, this project advocates for the pastoral leadership to champion a culture of expectant prayer, positioning the Church as a prophetic community that partners with God in shaping history through intercession."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["admin_set/default-default-approving","admin_set/default-default-depositing","admin_set/default-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Default Admin Set"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["dminadmin@tiu.edu"],"_version_":1832296904363343872,"timestamp":"2025-05-16T16:54:57.722Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2025-02-24T22:41:56Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2025-02-24T22:41:58Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"87fd824d-5983-47a8-8568-ebe176b8c494","accessControl_ssim":["b59db719-e972-4a4c-aca3-813d5810a7c0"],"depositor_ssim":["dminadmin@tiu.edu"],"depositor_tesim":["dminadmin@tiu.edu"],"title_tesim":["Praying Together: Hearing, Discussing, Practicing, and Applying the Lord's Prayer at First Evangelical Free Church of Sioux City Iowa"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2025-02-24T22:41:55Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2025-02-24T22:41:55Z","isPartOf_ssim":["admin_set/default"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["eadc42a0-bc8c-43ec-8a0a-51f00d6ff9a5"],"hasLease_ssim":["80c2136a-ebc6-4c22-86bb-5b0559990eb4"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Trinity International University"],"year_tesim":["2025"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. Evangelical churches in the modern era are no exception: while we often have solid processes for growing in our knowledge of scripture or for fellowship with fellow believers, rarely do we focus on growth in prayer. On the rare times when we do, such growth is often individual in nature rather than congregational. This imbalance is highlighted all the more when we consider that many of the existing works and programs addressing prayer are often written to address individual–rather than congregational–practices.\r\n\r\nThis project was primarily aimed at impacting the people of First Evangelical Free Church of Sioux City Iowa (Evangelical Free Church of America) in their practice of corporate prayer. This was done through two phases. The first consisted of an eight-week sermon series specifically focusing upon the Lord’s Prayer. The second phase of this intervention involved a nine-week workshop in which participants read and discussed selected prayers of the Bible alongside works from church history regarding prayer. These discussions then led into time spent praying in a group format, varying from 3-5 participants around a table to an entire workshop of 31 participants. The overall goal was to teach participants how the Lord’s Prayer provides both an example and a framework for biblical prayer in such a way that they could then apply that framework to other passages throughout the Bible in natural and contextually faithful ways.\r\nEvaluation surveys and interviews revealed that the interventions of this project were successful in their goals of making prayer part of how FEFC went about being and making disciples, and that growth was self-reported by participants in both individual and group contexts.\r\n"],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["admin_set/default-default-approving","admin_set/default-default-depositing","admin_set/default-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Default Admin Set"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["dminadmin@tiu.edu"],"_version_":1824980382784684032,"timestamp":"2025-02-24T22:41:59.007Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:35:08Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T06:58:06Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"a1e73447-0d2d-484f-9198-70fabc00078c","accessControl_ssim":["bff4a3cb-7b30-4b56-91a7-49a743c15e50"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Should We Curse In Church? Yet one genre of biblical literature remains largely unpreached in the local church—the imprecatory psalms. Some notable church leaders have discouraged Christians from praying these psalms in private let alone utilizing them in corporate worship. But if all Scripture is the inspired Word of God, then the imprecatory psalms hold value for both the Christian life and the ministry of local congregations despite the difficulties they present. This project seeks to supplement the available theological literature by preaching the curse psalms in a local church and discerning their homiletical impact. The effect of the Word preached was measured quantitatively through a pair of congregational surveys as well as qualitatively through both weekly focus groups and self-reflection essays. The gathered data indicates a positive correlation between hearing sermons from the imprecatory psalms and 1) a Christian’s intimacy with God in prayer, 2) their appreciation for the power and effect of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and 3) the local church’s commitment to confronting injustice. The data also raises concerns about potential negative outcomes when preaching the imprecatory psalms. Drawing upon both positive and negative feedback, the researcher offers guidance concerning homiletical approaches, spiritual benefits, and pastoral cautions when delivering sermons from these oft-ignored texts. The paper ends by applying the project’s findings to Miroslav Volf’s memoir Exclusion and Embrace, a theological reflection on having enemies, in hopes of tracing the initial contours of a pastoral theology of imprecation for the church."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Miscellaneous"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791128334594211840,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T06:58:10.090Z","score":1.0}],"facets":[{"name":"resource_type_sim","items":[{"value":"D.Min.
