They reflected upon their formative experiences, their leadership styles, experiences and roles, and their hopes for a stronger intergenerational future. There were four main formative experiences: growing up intergenerational in families of origin and churches, academic experiences, ministry experiences and the experience of becoming a parent. All experiences were based on relationships. I identified a cycle of leading as leaders listen and observe, share learning and adjust strategy, and practice. The ministry leaders’ intergenerational formation experiences led them to multiply what they received in their formative experiences by generating generative generations, for a stronger intergenerational future church. Through a mixed-methods approach combining quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews, the researcher implemented a six-week emotional intelligence program for fifteen African American high school students. The intervention consisted of two community excursions (a toy distribution service project and a bowling event) and four weekly coaching sessions focused on self-awareness, empathy, assertiveness, and heart-based decision-making.\r\n\r\nThe research was grounded in both theological and theoretical frameworks that emphasized the heart as the center of meaningful behavioral change, aligning with emotional intelligence principles. Data collection included pre- and post-intervention surveys, interviews, participant journaling, direct observation, and focus groups. Results demonstrated significant improvements in participants' decision-making approaches, with measurable growth in analytical thinking, reduced reliance on external validation, and increased decision confidence. Behavioral observations revealed enhanced social skills, empathy, and leadership emergence.\r\n\r\nThe findings suggest that developing emotional intelligence provides youth with effective tools to process trauma and make better decisions. This improvement was particularly evident in the dramatic increase in participant engagement between the first and second excursions. The project contributes valuable insights into addressing youth violence through heart-focused interventions rather than solely behavior-focused approaches, offering a model for community partnerships between law enforcement, schools, and faith communities to foster positive youth development in marginalized urban contexts."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["admin_set/default-default-approving","admin_set/default-default-depositing","admin_set/default-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Default Admin Set"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["dminadmin@tiu.edu"],"_version_":1830201071766601728,"timestamp":"2025-04-23T13:42:36.003Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2025-04-22T18:30:33Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2025-04-23T13:45:42Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"a40745f5-e579-4bb8-b90f-01818f5c1a51","accessControl_ssim":["95dac829-62f2-4a7b-94fc-8cf610d558c8"],"depositor_ssim":["dminadmin@tiu.edu"],"depositor_tesim":["dminadmin@tiu.edu"],"title_tesim":["The Tipping Point Towards Christ’s Mission Through the Local Church: Leadership Towards a Lay Missional Disciple Making Culture"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2025-04-22T18:30:33Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2025-04-23T13:45:42Z","isPartOf_ssim":["admin_set/default"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["4bddac11-ca8c-4a35-b6df-4deca3558c72"],"hasLease_ssim":["2ad50c23-8d0b-4847-a405-48d672158983"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Trinity International University"],"year_tesim":["2025"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. This project researches and addresses the problem that less than five percent of churches in the United States have a lay disciple making culture. The hypothesis is that a healthy church will have a minimum of thirty percent of its laity actively involved in life-on-life relational disciple making that creates a tipping point in the culture of the church. Key to this study is the idea that Jesus Christ and his method should take priority. For this reason, the title is Christ´s mission through the local church versus the church´s mission about Christ. The research investigates the biblical and theological background to missional disciple making. Literature was investigated regarding missional ecclesiology, sociological findings in connection with disciple making environments, and disciple making training methods. Three case studies of missional disciple making churches were researched. The research investigated questions of training, obstacles, structure, systems, culture, pastoral priorities and vision for lay missional disciple making in the local church. \r\n\r\nThe findings suggest that the local church can achieve the vital work of winning, building, equipping, multiplying and empowering laity to do the Great Commission. To achieve this ministry there must be clear definitions, processes, tracking, metrics, and simple reproducible methods. Significant shifts must take place in many churches to engage, train, and empower laity. When a disciple making culture is achieved there is an unlocking of ministry potential through the local church. When this happens the ministry leaders work can shift allowing for a change from ministry that is mainly seeing addition to multiplication on to movements of ministry. \r\n"],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["admin_set/default-default-approving","admin_set/default-default-depositing","admin_set/default-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Default Admin Set"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["dminadmin@tiu.edu"],"_version_":1830201268339998720,"timestamp":"2025-04-23T13:45:43.470Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2025-02-24T22:41:56Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2025-02-24T22:41:58Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"87fd824d-5983-47a8-8568-ebe176b8c494","accessControl_ssim":["b59db719-e972-4a4c-aca3-813d5810a7c0"],"depositor_ssim":["dminadmin@tiu.edu"],"depositor_tesim":["dminadmin@tiu.edu"],"title_tesim":["Praying Together: Hearing, Discussing, Practicing, and Applying the Lord's Prayer at First Evangelical Free Church of Sioux City Iowa"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2025-02-24T22:41:55Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2025-02-24T22:41:55Z","isPartOf_ssim":["admin_set/default"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["eadc42a0-bc8c-43ec-8a0a-51f00d6ff9a5"],"hasLease_ssim":["80c2136a-ebc6-4c22-86bb-5b0559990eb4"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Trinity International University"],"year_tesim":["2025"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. Evangelical churches in the modern era are no exception: while we often have solid processes for growing in our knowledge of scripture or for fellowship with fellow believers, rarely do we focus on growth in prayer. On the rare times when we do, such growth is often individual in nature rather than congregational. This imbalance is highlighted all the more when we consider that many of the existing works and programs addressing prayer are often written to address individual–rather than congregational–practices.\r\n\r\nThis project was primarily aimed at impacting the people of First Evangelical Free Church of Sioux City Iowa (Evangelical Free Church of America) in their practice of corporate prayer. This was done through two phases. The first consisted of an eight-week sermon series specifically focusing upon the Lord’s Prayer. The second phase of this intervention involved a nine-week workshop in which participants read and discussed selected prayers of the Bible alongside works from church history regarding prayer. These discussions then led into time spent praying in a group format, varying from 3-5 participants around a table to an entire workshop of 31 participants. The overall goal was to teach participants how the Lord’s Prayer provides both an example and a framework for biblical prayer in such a way that they could then apply that framework to other passages throughout the Bible in natural and contextually faithful ways.\r\nEvaluation surveys and interviews revealed that the interventions of this project were successful in their goals of making prayer part of how FEFC went about being and making disciples, and that growth was self-reported by participants in both individual and group contexts.\r\n"],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["admin_set/default-default-approving","admin_set/default-default-depositing","admin_set/default-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Default Admin Set"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["dminadmin@tiu.edu"],"_version_":1824980382784684032,"timestamp":"2025-02-24T22:41:59.007Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2025-02-03T16:37:25Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2025-02-03T16:37:27Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"30a28877-4efe-4c83-8a99-a5b6cef64c7f","accessControl_ssim":["cd2c9081-1645-475e-b14e-2219cef44cae"],"depositor_ssim":["dminadmin@tiu.edu"],"depositor_tesim":["dminadmin@tiu.edu"],"title_tesim":["A Pathway of Discipleship to Maturity in Christ Illustrated with Ministry to Iranian Believers"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2025-02-03T16:37:25Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2025-02-03T16:37:25Z","isPartOf_ssim":["admin_set/default"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["e589724f-5e81-4d57-9043-97596e60d10c"],"hasLease_ssim":["479b5aec-153e-4816-b7ac-27c3216e35e5"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Trinity International University"],"year_tesim":["2024"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. This is particularly seen amongst those who come to Christ out of a Muslim background. This study began with the desire to increase the effectiveness of discipleship amongst believers from an Iranian Muslim background. It evolved into an exploration of discipleship, its foundations, its meaning, and a pathway that would lead to maturity in Christ. It centered on the question, “How can I help my brother from a Muslim background grow up to maturity in Christ?”\r\nThis question was also affected by concerns about culture. Each culture has its own priorities and concerns, the ways in which people relate, understand each other, and live together. Respecting all people includes understanding their culture. Yet culture is critiqued under the authority of the Word of God. What can be retained, and what needs to be changed, in a culture in which the people are living under the Lordship of Christ? This led to an exploration of the Kingdom of God and His universal directives in discipleship. It includes His unchanging standard of holiness and love. It includes the spiritual battle in which discipleship takes place, in the process of traveling to the Lord’s goal for each disciple, maturity in Christ. It included questions such as, “What is maturity in Christ?” and “How do I arrive at maturity in Christ?” This study proposes to make a start in the discussion of discipleship to maturity in Christ. It presents principles and a pathway towards this goal. Always in view is the application of this process into the lives of dear brothers and sisters who have come to Christ from a Muslim background, of which some examples are included. May this study be a blessing and help to all believers, particularly to those serving believers from a Muslim background.\r\n\r\n"],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["admin_set/default-default-approving","admin_set/default-default-depositing","admin_set/default-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Default Admin Set"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["dminadmin@tiu.edu"],"_version_":1823054913319469056,"timestamp":"2025-02-03T16:37:28.231Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2025-01-13T16:51:24Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2025-01-13T16:51:26Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"0724486d-d07d-410e-b4a1-1657377f09fa","accessControl_ssim":["9d9a5eb4-5327-4334-b04b-6a13e4bb2090"],"depositor_ssim":["dminadmin@tiu.edu"],"depositor_tesim":["dminadmin@tiu.edu"],"title_tesim":["The Response to Hospice Care of Christian Indian Families in Chicago from 2011 to 2018"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2025-01-13T16:51:23Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2025-01-13T16:51:23Z","isPartOf_ssim":["admin_set/default"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["7b7d3ce9-bf4a-4c0c-ab87-4efaff00bd50"],"hasLease_ssim":["1c200a52-a22b-4ff5-95fd-741b59d85907"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Trinity International University"],"year_tesim":["2020"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. As part of this project, I conducted an online survey of forty-seven people and interviewed ten people from the 2nd generation Indian Pentecostal diaspora to identify the reasons related to their leaving their respective churches. The study was done over two months, and the results provided a better understanding of the issues contributing to their decision. The survey revealed that the lack of spiritual growth, church politics, and lifestyle issues such as lack of role models and emphasis against wearing jewelry were the primary reasons for the 2nd generation leaving the Indian Pentecostal diaspora churches in Chicagoland.\r\n\r\nThe study results also showed that while most of those who left the Indian Pentecostal diaspora churches in Chicago still identified as Pentecostals, they chose to attend ‘non-denominational’ churches regularly. Most respondents agreed that they missed the community aspect of the Indian Pentecostal church but concluded that they would not return to an Indian Pentecostal Church in the future. The results of this project provide the data that will help the Indian Pentecostal Churches in Chicagoland better understand the thought process behind the silent exodus of the 2nd generation from their Churches."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["admin_set/default-default-approving","admin_set/default-default-depositing","admin_set/default-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Default Admin Set"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["dminadmin@tiu.edu"],"_version_":1821152376685330432,"timestamp":"2025-01-13T16:37:27.907Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2025-01-13T16:19:27Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2025-01-13T16:19:28Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"b6137f7e-7f50-4a6c-beb5-97c499be8f23","accessControl_ssim":["a9bf103b-f57e-4ad9-aaf0-17e6465dc548"],"depositor_ssim":["dminadmin@tiu.edu"],"depositor_tesim":["dminadmin@tiu.edu"],"title_tesim":["The Impact of Cultural Diversity Month Towards Equipping and Unleashing an Intercultural Congregation for Gospel Outreach"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2025-01-13T16:19:26Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2025-01-13T16:19:26Z","isPartOf_ssim":["admin_set/default"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["ffed1725-c0b3-4527-9516-feb5d67a259e"],"hasLease_ssim":["23aabd85-41d1-4d49-bd78-c42bec9e89e4"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Trinity International University"],"year_tesim":["2024"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. The project corresponded with SVBC’s mission of “equipping and unleashing cultures and generations to authentically live out the Gospel everywhere” and addresses the importance of intercultural unity as a core biblical value.\r\n\r\nThe project’s approach integrates theological foundations, such as the imago Dei and imago Christi, biblical reconciliation, and the redemptive mission of God for all peoples, explored through a sermon series with themes of Identity, Lament, Reconciliation, and Mission. This theological framework sets the stage for qualitative research conducted through focus group interviews to analyze the perspectives of SVBC members on the impact of Cultural Diversity Month. Key findings include enhanced cultural awareness, new relational connections across cultural lines, and a deeper engagement with biblical themes of unity and diversity. Participants expressed a sense of shared identity in Christ, an appreciation for diverse expressions of worship, and a strengthened commitment to living out SVBC’s mission in their daily lives.\r\n\r\nThe project concludes with practical recommendations for SVBC, including steps for ongoing intercultural integration, the development of culturally sensitive outreach strategies, and strengthening SVBC’s mission through regular worship that reflects the congregation’s cultural diversity. Although he conducted the field work during COVID-19 lockdowns and disruption that goal was substantially achieved. Biblical study, theological reflection, and sociological insights formed the foundation for the author’s development of the training course. That research shaped a congregational survey regarding attitudes to personal evangelism, which in turn fed into an expert sample of ministry leaders and evangelistic trainers. In the light of these inputs the author wrote and piloted a four-week evangelistic training course. Course participant responses enabled the author to make a preliminary assessment regarding the effectiveness of the training course. The author then suggested a trajectory along which he could develop the course, and supplement it with additional support and resources. He also mapped out a ministry plan for the construction of an evangelistic ecosystem within a local church, incorporating an adapted version of the piloted course alongside additional groups and further input. The needs identified in this project regarding evangelistic training were greater than could be met in a short four-week course, but the author identified sufficient reasons for confidence that, alongside further ministry inputs, such a course could play a vital part in shifting a church’s culture in a more evangelistic direction."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Miscellaneous"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799718799436414976,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T02:39:55.776Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:35:08Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T06:58:06Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"a1e73447-0d2d-484f-9198-70fabc00078c","accessControl_ssim":["bff4a3cb-7b30-4b56-91a7-49a743c15e50"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Should We Curse In Church? Yet one genre of biblical literature remains largely unpreached in the local church—the imprecatory psalms. Some notable church leaders have discouraged Christians from praying these psalms in private let alone utilizing them in corporate worship. But if all Scripture is the inspired Word of God, then the imprecatory psalms hold value for both the Christian life and the ministry of local congregations despite the difficulties they present. This project seeks to supplement the available theological literature by preaching the curse psalms in a local church and discerning their homiletical impact. The effect of the Word preached was measured quantitatively through a pair of congregational surveys as well as qualitatively through both weekly focus groups and self-reflection essays. The gathered data indicates a positive correlation between hearing sermons from the imprecatory psalms and 1) a Christian’s intimacy with God in prayer, 2) their appreciation for the power and effect of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and 3) the local church’s commitment to confronting injustice. The data also raises concerns about potential negative outcomes when preaching the imprecatory psalms. Drawing upon both positive and negative feedback, the researcher offers guidance concerning homiletical approaches, spiritual benefits, and pastoral cautions when delivering sermons from these oft-ignored texts. The paper ends by applying the project’s findings to Miroslav Volf’s memoir Exclusion and Embrace, a theological reflection on having enemies, in hopes of tracing the initial contours of a pastoral theology of imprecation for the church."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Miscellaneous"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791128334594211840,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T06:58:10.090Z","score":1.0}],"facets":[{"name":"resource_type_sim","items":[{"value":"D.Min.
