After developing a biblical theological framework for understanding normative patterns of discipleship in the Scriptures, the study reports on findings from semi-structured interviews with thirty participants recommended by their pastors and peers for their outstanding faith. All participants were forty years of age or younger, most of them were lifelong church members, and all were actively involved with large evangelical churches in the suburban South. Their spiritual formation involves church participation, but their self-reported focus centers on small, close-knit friendship groups, high engagement with Scripture and prayer, and caring for one another through suffering and sacrifice. Simply having hundreds of missionaries, being actively involved in witnessing, evangelism, and church planting, or maintaining a large mission’s budget does not necessarily make a church missional. In a missional church, every member understands God’s mission, recognizes their role as someone who is sent, and intentionally participates in God’s ongoing work by living out their faith with the purpose of reaching the lost.\r\n\r\nAnother important finding is the common belief that only ministers or those appointed by the church are responsible for missions. Many individuals who strive to live out their faith at home, at work, and in other settings still feel guilty for not fully obeying God’s command in the Great Commission because they have not gone to distant or remote places to preach the gospel. The New Testament concept of the priesthood of all believers is not well understood.\r\nThese challenges are likely present in many churches around the world, not just in Nigeria or Africa. This study investigates the potential of a community-based, integrative approach—specifically missional communities (MCs) adopting a holistic body-mind-spirit-communal relationship (BMSC) framework—to\r\nsupport sustainable recovery. Drawing on twenty years of experience in addiction treatment, the researcher examines how MCs facilitate transformation across multiple stages of recovery, helping individuals once deemed incurable develop a renewed identity as disciples of Jesus and\r\nintegrate into Christian communities and church life. The study addresses why many recovering individuals struggle to permanently abandon prior\r\naddictive behaviors, and explores the spiritual, communal, and psychosocial mechanisms that support lasting change. Guided by mixed-methods research, including qualitative interviews and quantitative measures, the study evaluates the impact of BMSC-based MCs on participants’ holistic recovery, participation in Christian communities and church, relationship with God, and commitment to discipleship. Using a mixed methods approach of in-depth interviews, small group interviews, and document analysis, the project presents data from nine pastors and twelve young adults, along with analysis from Mosaic Young Adult Initiative documents. The findings suggest formational and missional value\r\nof a place-based church collaboration in the spiritual lives of young adults. Values and practices are identified for working with young adults, strengthening church culture, and positively influencing the community. Further, the project analysis highlights possibilities for collective impact and collective formation through a place-based church collaboration, informed by a\r\nspatial-ecclesial imagination. Such a theological vision compels churches to see and work beyond their own boundaries for broader city-wide influence and deeper discipleship of young adults. This research demonstrates the benefits of a place-based approach to church partnerships, spiritual formation, and missional engagement. It also suggests prospects for complementary strategies to church planting through place-based hub planting. During the years of the Corona Virus pandemic, numbers of digitally mediated meetings via Zoom skyrocketed. Likewise, many churches that previously conducted the Alpha Course via the in-person format made a transition to offer the Alpha Online Course. This research project has sought to understand and articulate the spiritual dynamics of an Alpha Online Course with particular attention to\r\npeople who converted to faith through the online medium. This researcher explored how a local church might spread the gospel and reach people effectively in the digital realm through interactive online meetings, and why it should consider this way of evangelism as a viable means of evangelism.\r\n\r\nIncorporating evidence from literature, Scripture, participant observation, and twenty qualitative interviews, this study argues that the Alpha Course offered via the Zoom video conference has the potential to create a social space that is equal to if not preferred to in person courses. Alpha Course Online is an effective means of evangelism. It provides the participant(s) as well as the facilitator(s) with a means to balance the degree of closeness and distance. \r\n\r\nIn contrast to in-person Alpha Courses, Alpha Online provides people an opportunity to participate in emotionally and spiritually engaging meetings. This study shows that participants adjust quickly to the digital format and in this setting may engage in discussion, expressing their thoughts clearly and handling their emotions self-responsibly without embarrassment. The Alpha Course Online allows both intimacy and privacy at the same time. It enables people to reach a deeper level of conversation more quickly than expected. Drawing upon biblical theology, the practices of the early church, the experience and practice of 18 churches and prayer ministries notable for their example and influence, the study examines principles for developing sustained, faith-filled prayer ministry. There has been decline in prayer among American Christians due to distractions, theological misconceptions, and diminished expectancy, and these trends undermine the transformative power of the American Church. Through a review of Scripture, early Church Fathers, and contemporary best practices, the project emphasizes the indispensable role of prayer in individual and corporate life. The work proposes a biblically grounded and practically applicable model of prayer ministry tailored for evangelical and charismatic churches, incorporating structured teaching, consistent practice, and especially leadership example. Data from the author’s home church Family Christian Center of Munster, IN, including prayer meeting participation and documented answered prayers, demonstrates the effectiveness of such a model. It addresses two key research questions: (1) the internal and external factors influencing church multiplication, and (2) the role of theological\r\nframeworks in shaping these practices. \r\n\r\nBridge Church, grounded in the Gospel of the Kingdom theology, emphasizes relational depth, spiritual formation, and organic leadership transitions. While this approach fosters sustainable, mission-aligned growth, it faces challenges such as delayed multiplication and leadership fatigue, often influenced by life-stage constraints and strong relational bonds. In contrast, Green Hill Church adopts principles from the Church Growth Movement (CGM), prioritizing structured training, hierarchical efficiency, and rapid multiplication. Though effective in achieving numerical growth, this pragmatic approach can result in emotional strain, fragmented relationships, and premature leadership assignments.\r\n\r\nThe findings indicate that sustainable church multiplication requires a balance of theological integrity, relational trust, structured leadership pathways, and life-cycle sensitivity. Integrating the relational and theological depth of Kingdom theology with the strategic clarity of CGM offers a promising framework for growth. Key themes explored in this research include vision casting, membership retention, membership integration, and assessing components to revitalizing the urban Black church.\r\n\r\nSix churches were selected in the greater Kansas City metropolitan area. Three of them are thriving, while the other three were once thriving. A comparison and analysis were conducted to identify the common denominators among the six churches, exploring how they achieved and maintained their success and the methodologies they employed that could be applied to other churches in the greater Kansas City area and beyond. Over forty participants from the six churches took part in interviews, Zoom meetings, and roundtable discussions which addressed the key research problems. The information from those interviews was shared in a group setting that was particular to each individual church.\r\n\r\nThree major takeaways include how pastors dedicated specific time to clarify the vision and direction of their churches; how their visions were communicated through verbal and nonverbal messaging; and lastly, implementing and evaluating the processes and efforts utilized from the vision that resulted in discipleship and commitment to the church. In conclusion, pastors, church leaders, and church members were able to evaluate how they could achieve their goals, assess their organizational structure, and streamline their actions. The research investigates two primary questions: (1) How, if any, does expository preaching enhance understanding of Scripture? and (2) How, if any, has expository preaching influenced spiritual growth and maturity, leading to missional impact on unbelievers?\r\n\r\nUsing a mixed-methods approach, the researcher preached an expository sermon at six Nigerian Pentecostal Churches in Chicagoland and collected data through surveys (n=47), focus group interviews (n=18), and participant observation. Based on Acts 3, the sermon demonstrated proper exegesis and African Hermeneutics to ensure cultural relevance while maintaining biblical fidelity.\r\n\r\nThe research findings indicated that 72% of participants reported a deeper understanding of Scripture after experiencing expository preaching. In comparison, 98% believed regular exposure to expository sermons would aid their spiritual growth and lead to a missional impact. The research revealed that most Nigerian Pentecostal Church members had limited prior exposure to expository preaching, with many churches prioritizing prosperity theology and motivational messages over systematic biblical teaching. The study identified several challenges to implementing expository preaching in this context, including limited theological training among pastors, cultural expectations around preaching style, and structural constraints such as insufficient sermon time. The 2025 United States presidential transition coincided with the timing of the research fieldwork (January to March 2025). This event significantly impacted immigrant church attendance and research participation.\r\n\r\nThis researcher concludes that expository preaching has substantial potential to transform Nigerian Pentecostal Church Members in Chicagoland. Expository preaching would enhance biblical literacy, foster spiritual maturity, and equip the members for effective evangelism. This had never happened before in the church’s history, and it all began during a recent sermon series in the book of Acts. Deliverance has since become an expected phenomenon that the church leadership prepares for every week now. This Doctor of Ministry project sought to examine how to effectively bring together the ministry of deliverance along with the ministry of Biblical Counseling (intensive discipleship) to help those who have been set free maintain their freedom and live the Spirit-filled life. This involved a three-step process: (1) An initial interview to determine the direction of the intervention, (2) three fifty-minute biblical counseling sessions over a period of twenty-one days during which relevant action items were assigned, and (3) a final interview to determine the effectiveness of the intervention. Qualitative research was done through analyzing the final interview data. Some\r\nmajor findings within the twenty-one day period included that an exceeding majority of participants (90%) experienced freedom from bondage to struggles related to former demonic strongholds prior to their deliverance, and following through on action items (especially in actively forgiving others) had a strong correlation with a sense of overall spiritual growth. The research was conclusive that this twenty-one day process is a feasible and effective program for\r\nthose delivered from demonic strongholds, to jumpstart them into a larger discipleship process. It can be logically deduced that it should also be applicable to ministering to anyone who may be caught in the throes of battling the temptations of the world, the flesh, and the devil (cf. Ephesians 2:1-3).
