Thisportfolio begins with the author’s spiritual autobiography and with thatknowledge the model of spiritual formation was developed. The spiritual modelcan be pictured using an image of a wheel where Christ is placed at the hub (thecenter) of one’s life and is connected to all the spokes (or parts) of one’s life. Themodel works to encourage people to move Christ closer to the center of theirlives, where they can live and have their being in their “true selves,” as God’s willintends.Using this model of spiritual formation, a field research project wasdeveloped to help spiritually form the spiritual leaders of the OakridgePresbyterian Church congregation towards a greater unity in Christ. Using theExamen as a spiritual practice helped guide participants to focus and beintentional about noticing God’s presence in all things and therefore helping tokeep Christ as the centre of their life. Barrier and facilitating factors were identified by combining themes from literature review and interviews of a convenience sample of 20 people from the population. From these factors, a survey was designed and disseminated. Data from the 89 respondents was analyzed by the researcher and Power to Change staff. A group study resource was developed focusing on one facilitating factor, 'take the initiative,' and it was pilot tested with a small group. The impact of this small project was assessed by interviewing the participants of a small group. This research project helped identify an inventory of what helps or hinders students connected to Power to Change to share the gospel with others. Six individuals and the researcher used the methodology of action research to collect and analyze the data. The data were gathered through written journal logs and group interviews. This study showed that hospitality is an inclusive practice. Secondly, there are four reasons why we should practice hospitality: hospitality creates a space for evangelism, is worship, is a spiritual dynamic, and is a practice that needs to be recovered. Using Action Research, 11 drop-in centre volunteers, over 3 sites, were interviewed and surveyed. As a result the congregation's ministries have not been aligned with any explicit overarching vision. Ministries were sometimes not sure how their particular activities aligned with the larger purposes of the church. A process was needed to bring the congregation's leadership together to start thinking strategically and plan the future ministries of the church around a shared vision. A strategic planning team led the process by conducting congregational surveys, meeting regularly to pray, studying survey results and writing new mission and vision statements. The outcomes of this project include new mission and vision statements, a willingness to align the ministries accordingly, and a more forward looking, visionary leadership. At times their role is not clearly defined. As a result some care groups function like a social group without spiritual direction. This research project addresses the training needs of care group leaders by developing a training program that attends to the main functions of a care group leader. The threefold office of Christ as prophet, priest, and king is used as a model to guide the development of the training program. Is discipleship unique activities or is it better to view it as an integration of activities? This project looked at the impact of an 8-month integrated discipleship initiative following the pedagogical framework of service learning. Five disciplines were cycled through on a monthly basis. The initiative demonstrated significant formational impact as the various activities intersected each other. This study examines the approach taken by RHCCC. Strategic planning was employed. A Caring Ministry Handbook was developed to promote clarification and collaboration in ministry strategy, alignment and operation. An action research was adopted using two pilot programs, integrating pastoral care and discipleship, to address people's bio-psycho-socio-spiritual well-being.
