The first part looks at how mentoring and personal prayer practices influenced my personal spiritual journey. The second part provides practical enhancements to an existing model of spiritual formation and discusses the place of small groups, suffering, mentoring, and personal spiritual practices in that enhanced model. Finally, in the third part I review a ministry project where I mentored seven individuals in their personal prayer lives over a seven-week period. The author studied six participants as they progressed through ACLDM by engaging in three phases of learning while in consultation with three supporting parties to determine if leadership growth occurred. The methodology used was primarily qualitative research and used methods of survey, observation and guided interviews to collect data. The research indicated that every participant experienced perceived growth while going through ACLDM. Spirituality provides a safe space for medical professional staff to explore their own sources of hope while confronting illness in the journey of life. This thesis reports the findings from a six-month training course delivered to a group of actively serving chairpersons in the Evangelical Missionary Church of Canada. The thesis project was designed utilizing the concepts of action research. Chair participants and two board governance experts evaluated the effectiveness of course. Board members from the participant's congregation assessed the impact of the course on the Chair's confidence and performance. The author used qualitative research through survey and individual interviews to identify internal and external barriers, which inhibit the discipleship of the BMBs and their growth in the Christian faith. He then recommended culturally relevant remedies. Resources included Natural Church Development's Three Colors of Ministry and Color Your World, Trinitarian liturgical material, and a self-developed small group curriculum.
