The method used to achieve this involvement was small group scripture study, sharing, personal goal-setting, exposure to relational evangelism, and worship planning. The context is an urban ministry agency of the United Methodist Church working among the urban poor in charleston, west virginia. The most frequent model for 'mission' contact with the local church is interpretation, not prophecy.  The prevailing expectation for a missionary is that he or she interpret their work to the local church, not raise prophetic words concerning it.  My program found viable ways in which the biblical-theological understanding can be focused in local churches to use their resources.  It communicates understandings, awakens consciences, and prompts new directions whisle using the history and stories of local churches.
