This study examined a system for resuscitating and healing churches that have suffered trauma. The hypothesis is that empathy, justice-mindedness, and humility, partnership with the Godhead, and koinonia, are the prescription for resuscitating and healing a church that has been traumatized. A qualitative methodology was employed utilizing surveys, interviews, and observations. The purpose of the research was to develop a five-week, small program to facilitate a healthy grief experience by teaching about the grief process and selected spiritual disciplines to integrate the participants back into the community of the church. The researcher involved the children in activities such as praying, singing, liturgical dancing, journaling and crafts, using the pro-active research method.  This method seeks transformation while conducting qualitative research.  The researcher found that children who participated in grief activities involving prayer and worship were more responsive than those who participated in recreational activities alone. It was found that 86 percent of the respondents engaged in formal pastoral counseling; they engaged in counseling an average of 10 hours per month, and they encountered a limited variety of counseling problems. Congregational and community context and job-related institutional characteristics accounted for differences in both the amount and variety of counseling more than did clergy's personal characteristics. Project Associates and Consulting Faculty assisted the author in the planning, development, implementation and evaluation phases of the project.  Implementation was carried out in a six month period at Immanuel United Methodist Church in Elida, Ohio.  Six case histories were analyzed to evaluate the effectiveness of the materials and counseling sessions. Four sermons on baptism were preached during implementation. Disease frequently occurs when a patient's lifestyle is not in harmony with his/her attitudes, values and beliefs.  This study explores ways in which physicians and clergy can work together to foster wholistic health for patients.  The University of Michigan, Department of Family Practice has employed a full-time pastoral counselor/ethicist to further the cooperation between clergy and physicians.  Through a training program focused on counseling skills, clergy and physicians have developed comfortable working relationships.
