Recognition of one's own feelings and the feelings of others, to the extent they are important, was involved in the problem solving process.  The goal was to keep the rational processes functioning when considering alternatives in solving problems in human relationships. Consultation was collaborative in that the department directors worked together in the learning process. Thirteen parents (eleven women and two men) considered developmental and child-rearing models, researched their findings and reflected personal experience within a supportive atmosphere.  The result of their interaction was a cyclical, sensitizing process which could have transferable applications within other contexts.
