A case study was implemented to evaluate the experiences of those that participated in a well-planned series of consciousness-raising transforming seminars. Byron and The Black Messiah by Albert B. Cleage.  Five modules, of a theological-social nature, can improve the intercultural awareness of the participants.  This was validated by the multicultural awareness quiz, which was employed as the pre-test.  A post-questionnaire was the method of gathering and evaluating feedback.  Measurement was accomplished by collecting and reviewing the data from the questionnaires.  Results were incorporated into the dissertation. When barriers are removed that keep certain groups frozen in status, it will empower the community.  The methodologies which will be used in this project are qualitative data collection and data analysis. I conducted the first parish-based Refraiming the Dialogue on Racism in America program. The project was a five-week course on racism in which thirty-six parishioners participated. Methodology of the study included a survey, spiritual autobiographies, and interviews. Findings revealed that participants did become more conscious of their whiteness, privilege, and power. GROUP used Gathering, Resources, Opportunities, Understandings, and Participants as key ingredients in eradicating the damaging effects of racism on African American males between the ages of 15 and 19. The research was done at St. Matthew United Methodist Church in Chicago, Illinois. Religious belief systems of African Americans informed the process. In this effort a small group from Fairhaven meets six times with a group from an African American congregation to identify racial eight concerns in pastoral care: evangelism, substance abuse and addiction, discipleship, psychological needs, youth at risk, parenting, prisoners, and racial tension. These churches conduct a combined fellowship worship service, a mission trip to Tijuana, Mexico, and two Spanish-language worship services at Johnson Chapel.
