The research question was, 'how will a leadership development program affect the Council on Ministries?' three major events were implemented.  Two preparatory sessions involved present members of the COM. The concluding workshop was an orientation for newly elected members of the Council.  The conclusion is that the development of leaders is accomplished through teaching skills, sharing information , and a process of spiritual growth. A system for planning ministry was developed with twelve lay persons in a suburban Protestant congregation of 1,400 members.  This system included a parish vision and mission statement, a nine step planning guide for program groups and a method for program evaluation. Evaluation of nine sermons, sessions discussing views of preaching, and sermon preparation seminars were the methods used; members of Fourth Lutheran Church, Springfield, Ohio, participated. A small group of members were taught models of conflict resolution and became the demonstration setting for practicing creative conflict resolution.  Pre- and post-testing demonstrated growth and positive change in each participant.  The congregation changed from self-defeating patterns in conflict, such as avoidance, to ones which accept diversity and value in appropriate conflict resolution. It also served to test the new form of organization for smaller United Methodist churches which place emphasis on group responsibility and accountability over that of hierarchical leadership. The training, which is described, occurred in nine sessions focusing on leadership skills and roles.  It was evaluated using the Style of Leadership Survey of Teleometrics, International, along with several other methods. Process thought and personal experience become the tools to affirm the sacredness of the human body as a holy, valuing presence.  This ministerial project includes an initial workshop designed to enhance individuals' appreciation of their biological, psychological and religious aspects in relation to their total environment.  One instrument assesses body appreciation before the workshop, another afterwards. Although no change can be demonstrated, a high degree of participant satisfaction emerges.  The document details both theology and methods.  Follow-up discussion provides suggestions for adaptations in evaluation tools and workshop formats, and offers implications for the basic dynamics of mutual presence in
