Since then, changes in society, religion and the university itself have created a far different cultural setting for university congregations.  Through a survey of American Baptist university churches and case studies of two congregations, mission and identity in the university church are explored.  Churches studied exhibited a strong sense of identity, strong connections with the community, strong connections between faith and learning, 'spiritual balance,' and were reappropriating the church's tradition for the present day. This dual model, which sees human nature as fixed with biologically assigned roles for men and women, is contrasted to additional models, most notably a multi-polar anthropology which sees human nature as informed by culture. In six month 7 Care Guides shared in group spiritual reflection, education and personal journals on: faith stories, Ware's Typology, depression, hope, suffering, and pity, compassion, and mercy in caring ministry.
