Wesley spread Methodist doctrines through sermons, and asked early Methodist preachers to preach according to Methodist doctrines. Nowadays, preaching doctrinal sermons as a Methodist preacher can be a way of reviving the spirit of the early Methodist church.  Doctrinal sermons have the advantage of reducing rejection on the part of church members toward doctrinal instruction and making it possible to teach doctrine to church members continually. The focus is on the author's own situation, supplemented by the other three congregations.  The author uses case study methodology utilizing questionnaires, interviews to test and apply principles and insights into culture and leadership found in other sources seeking to develop recommendations for other church planters. The expression of this narrative quality in Christian worship is primary to the formation of Christian identity.  A study group assembled to investigate the narrative function in Christian faith and worship.  They developed a series of worship experiences based on a narrative understanding and evaluated them for increased awareness of Christian identity of the worshiper.
