As a means of facilitating this quest, preaching is also suspect.  The Post-enlightenment fragmentation of facts from values that reduced religion to little more than subjective opinion and elevated science to a place of supreme authority altered the landscape of the church and impacted the nature of preaching. The first body of literature dealt with postmodernity and the generational distinctiveness and nuances of that field. The author claims that Millennials (born between 1982-2000) are the most postmodern generation to date. The second body of literature deals exclusively with postmodernity and its relationship specifically with white-upper-middle-class youth ministry in the United States. The author follows the movement of the church through time to its current liminal marginalized position within a postmodern culture. From this position, churches need to become complex adaptive organizations able to function and thrive in 'chaos' so that they can transition to a postmodern environment. In this thesis paper, contemporary drama is discussed with themes of alienation and community in our postmodern culture.  The author led an adult class in Christian Education in reading and discussing contemporary plays over a period of eight weeks.  Participants were encouraged through drama to engage personal faith and the community of the church.  Characters in the plays and the plot were integral to the discussion.
