The project explores the critical relationship between arts and theology, as explored in a praxis model of integration, through pottery. Writings of theologians John Calvin, Paul Tillich, Michael Polanyi, Douglas John Hall, and artists M. C. Richards, Paulus Berehnson, Catherine Kapikian, and Daniel de Montmollin, Brother of Taize, are considered. Church members, staff, and participants in More than a meal program at Idlewild Church, a program for persons who are homeless or living in compromised situations, were invited to join a series of pottery classes, resulting in nearly sixty persons working together every week, over a seven-week period, concluding with an exhibit of 652 finished pots. Individuals were invited to participate in a study that dispelled strongly held feelings of distrust. Process for planned change was used to foster inclusion. Bible study sessions encouraged a reflection on God, a joint worship service was culturally inclusive, and an economic forum increased knowledge of financial empowerment. Five churches were chosen, pastors of these churches became a part of a study group, mentors were assigned to each church, mentors became a part of a district vitalization team. Yet because transmission of HIV/AIDS often involves forms of sexual contact and/or substance use which are condemned in most Christian communities, and because many persons living with HIV/AIDS have had deeply painful experiences with Christians, prejudice, fear, and pain create a gap between Christians and persons living with HIV/AIDS.  AIDS education within church communities needs to bridge this gap.  This project is a ministry tool in which Christian communities interact with a body of artistic work in order to shift misunderstanding, prejudice, and fear concerning persons living with HIV/AIDS.  The project shows that art can be used to bring about understanding, transformation, and dialogue. We established the Transforming Arts Association and Ministry, a ministry tool that provides arts and contemporary skills training to both Christians and non-Christians where the learning experience encourages participant transformation. We offered series of 'arts' classes to various ages, denominations and faiths. He examined biblical texts and early church writings to illustrate hospitality as an experience of grace. The author then raised questions regarding the appropriate personal and social responses to that grace. Because of his Katrina experience, both people and pastor re-learned that hospitality was a necessary practice in the faith community.
