Unfortunately, very little has been done to develop discipleship materials uniquely for Native people. This project presents a new spiritual formation process designed specifically for the students at the Indian Bible College in Flagstaff, Arizona. The author researched spiritual formation theory and Native American culture and Christianity. This thesis discusses the universal problem of nominalism and offers a plan to reduce the high proportion of nominal Christians through the introduction of a specialized training program for pastors which concentrates on nurturing and discipling new converts to the point where they become self-motivating.  The author highlights anthropological and historical factors which have contributed to the problem of nominalism. One cause is a lack of proper focus on the doctrine of heaven.  Using before and after testing of a class taught using a nine-lesson curriculum based on a lay-oriented book on this doctrine, the study concludes that this book and curriculum were effective in positively influencing the understanding of and attitude toward heaven in the test group.  Such an improvement led to better motivation toward personal godliness and witness in almost all students.
