Some of those who left the church for other churches were interviewed, as were the backsliders and regular attenders. The results indicated that something was lacking in the church. Eighteen male volunteers of diverse national and personal backgrounds were surveyed and a number of others referred to concerning the long-term effects of their own abortion experience, most of which were negative.  The author argues against elective abortion as public policy and personal choice on religious, medical, and social grounds.  The foundation is laid for the development of an approach to biblical counseling of post-abortion males and for the training of counselors. This thesis proposes a vital part of the answer to this problem by presenting a biblical model of addiction and ministry to the addicted. The author points out the flaws in 12-step groups and provides an alternative which is biblical in its approach. This alternative is called Higher Ground, a local church-sponsored, Christ-centered support group for the addicted and the family.  The author presents a history of this ministry, shows how it implements biblical principles and evaluates the effectiveness of this ministry with statistics and case studies.
