By means of surveys, informal discussions and formal counseling, he discovered what his congregation thought about baptism. By interviewing local ministers about their views on baptism, he discovered why some in his congregation held non-Presbyterian views on baptism.  The author preached four sermons, outlining the Presbyterian understanding of the basis, subjects, meaning and mode of baptism, and compiled a workbook on baptism, which was used in counseling parents who wanted their children baptised. Many of these students become actively involved in the life of the church throughout the period of their study.  However, many others do not.  This project presents a strategy for integrating students into the life of a church.  Mentoring provides an ideal model for involving an entire congregation in ministry to and with students.  Based on a theological framework and using lessons learned from history, demography and ethnography, a three-pronged model of mentoring (visitation/evangelism, mentoring and hospitality) is developed.  The model was tested successfully in Knox Presbyterian Church, Toronto, found next to the University of Toronto.  The study is in three parts.  The first is a theoretical and analytical basis for a programme of mentoring. The second provides a practical manual for establishing a mentoring community in a local church. The local church should be the center for counseling and the pastor should supervise the counseling ministries under his authority.  There should be training for counseling ministries and the gifts of the Spirit are an integral part of them.  Method of research was a technique centered study with a focus on methods, models and programs used in counseling.  There were interviews with pastors, professional counselors and lay counselors.  There was an analysis of the history of the psychiatric hospitals in America established by the Mennonite Church.  There were also many case studies done by the author.  Much of the counseling is being done by Mennonite professionals and is mostly secular in content.  Some counseling is done by lay persons one-on-one and in small groups. Some pastors do biblical counseling and there are some congregational counselors. The method of research included interviews with shepherds in the Middle East and the United States, and extensive study and exegesis of the many biblical passages relating to the subject.
